Why worry about gas mileage in a vehicle geared for towing 5,000 pounds and capable of hauling another 1,200 in the cargo area?

you think liberty's get bad gas mileage? my Commander is lucky to ever reach 18mpg with very conservative driving. usually we're around 16mpg. if that still sounds good to ya, try driving an 86 Grand Wagoneer around for a week. 10mpg if i'm driving in a tailwind on the down side of the sunshine skyway :) . my 04 renegade is a stock 4x2 with synthetic oil & close to 83k trouble free miles on it already & it consistantly gets 20+mpg & about 320 miles per tank @ 16 gallons before i fill up! even more amazing is with tire rotations every 6000 miles, i'm still on the original tires 83k miles later with 30% tread life left!! holy cow!!! AND.... i'll be replacing the front brake pads for the first time on my next service! Liberty's rock!!!!!!

I don't think I am usually heavy on the pedal...but I get around 17 doing mostly around town. I got 21 once, it was almost all highway though. I can't stand the gas mileage, I can't believe how bad it is for a relatively small vehicle with a relatively small engine. But I put up with it because I absolutely love my Liberty!

the vehicle weighs over 4200 lbs, you got to remember that. My beretta that is just as long as my liberty and only weighs 2700lbs.

I consistently get 21-24 in mine.
'03 Liberty Sport 4x4, 3.7

There are parts of my commute where I can coast for half a mile (or more), so that probably helps.

Just filed up last week, reset the trip odometer...I'm sitting at 192 miles traveled and the tank is still dead on half full. this is now the 3rd fill up with my new tires (larger at 245/70-16) and K&N FIPK and I've consistently got 380-400 miles on a single tank of gas. Bare in mind that's about 95-97% highway driving. I commute 72 miles round trip everyday. I keep it at below 71 MPH the whole route. about 3 minutes of city driving at the end of each way. I'm impressed being a heavy Jeep. Lovin this. I wonder if I could eek out a few more miles with a performance muffler. hmmmmmm. ;)

it amazes me that those people getting 24 MPG are getting almost 450 miles out of a tank...sounds almost unbelievable...those that say they get 27 MPG are seeing 500 miles out of a tank???? that I have a hard time believing. I'm doing real well and only seeing about 21-22 MPG with the 18.5 gallon tank.

On the times I hit 24 MPG I'm driving like a grandpa. Literally. My take off would be comparable to a school bus and shifting at 2k RPM.

On the highway I keep it at 60 MPH because anything above just eats the gas. I'm happy with it. I couldn't touch 27 MPG in my jeep.

I'm happy getting 15-16mpg out of The Beast. The Liberty was capable of getting better mpg but I tended to drive it with a heavier foot so all in all I'm getting about the same mileage out of a vehicle I like owning better.

I got 13.5mpg out of my last tank. Around here it's 80+ mph on the highway or your getting run off the road. Best i have ever gotten was 320 out of a tank on a highway trip. That was before my lift, tires, rack etc. MT/R's absolutely kill gas mileage.

Mine gets about 16 mpg city, 22 highway. Going down the backside of the mountains in Colorado, the EVIC shows 99.9 MPG.

On MythBusters they tested the myth that following directly behind a semi truck will greatly increase your gas mileage because of the decreased air resistance. I was curious so I tested that myth myself. The EVIC said I was getting 50 mpg following about 20 feet behind a semi.

400 miles is when I always fill up and it puts me right at 1/4 tank.

This is on the way back to Durango from my Durango-Vail-Denver road trip. No cruise at about 65-75mph with a tire on the roof. I didn't get the exact mpg calculations but I took this before I filled up and it was under 14 gallons. She's running like a champ! 8)

Since day 1 my engine accessory drive has made a lot of noise. With about 46K on the clock my water pump siezed up. I replaced it and the accessory drive noise is finally gone after 4 years. I immediately picked up about 2 MPG. Also I noticed it cranks faster now when I start it in the morning. I think I had a bad waterpump right from the factory and it had affected my gas mileage for 4 years!

Now I'm averaging right around 18. If I was only to drive highway miles and keep it between 70 and 75 I might be able to get it up to 21 or 22. But the light rack and roof basket on the '03 renegades come with a stiff aerodynamic penalty.
