As some people wrote, is the ride smoother off road with the sway bar front and/or rear removed? What have peopled found on that one?

It may just seem like it because I go so slow without the sway bar attached but, it seems smoother without the front bar on.

What? It's not connected to the unibody!?! I thought it was. Never actually disco'd both sides but, I took the passenger side off when I put Rusty's coils in. Does it come completely loose when both sides are disco'd?
If you unbolt both sides it will pretty much fall out of the vehicle, only 4 bolts and it's out.

Did you guys notice much (if any) sag in the back end when you removed the swaybar?
No sag from the it being removed.

By being connected to both lower control arms, it allows them to stay more level. It would be the same as adding a higher rate spring in the back.

Actually the reason for the swaybar in the first place is to be able to retain ride quality of a lighter-rate spring while reducing body roll.

it's not the SAME as a stiffer spring...very different

As for sag, the only thing that'll cause your KJ to sag is springs. Shocks and swaybars don't support the KJ in any way...they just help the springs do a better job of what they do;)

Had mine off about 8 months put it back on a few weeks ago can't notice much difference,, I put it on mostly because I may tow a trailer from time to time. Joe

I don't know if it flexes more with it off, but it sure flexes quicker and it tracks better over the small stuff. When its off you can see the axle articulate over stutter bumps. With it on, it bounces over the bumps a bit more. I would say it "rides" much better with it off.

I will note that before I took mine off, I had a rubbermaid tool box that sat in the back (not tied down back in those days) and it would not slide going around corners. With it off, it was flung around when going around corners at the same speeds. I felt no difference by the seat of my pants, but it obviously does make a bit of difference (although very small).

I could see it limiting the flex on a lifted KJ, as it was not designed with the longer travel in mind.

Mine doesnt reduce flex at all.

I can hit the bumpstops on one end and have the shocks fully extended on the other.

With it off, I can lift the front inside tire off the ground accelerating around a corner from a stop. It scared the crap out of me the first time it happened. It also happens on U-turns if I accelerate out of them too quickly/soon.

My friends find it impressive and amusing that my 5000 pound diesel Jeep can pull a tripod-wheelie from a stop. I had to tone-down my driving a little after disconnecting the rear sway. Before the Jeep, I drove a low slung autocross-tuned compact car, so it was quite a change.

If I never off-roaded this rig, I would certainly re-attach the rear sway bar.
