.... if the jeep does run then you still need to remove the positive battery cable to verify the altenator is working.
now if you have a volt meter you do not need to remove the postive battery terminal ,
just check the voltage at the battery with engine running battery voltage should be 13-14 vdc
so if ya aint got no meter...swap the battery & jeep will run.
once running pull the pos term off battery.
if jeep dies.. .bad altenator
if jeep still runs... just a bad battery.....
I would not pull the battery cable off while the engine is running... too much chance of damaging some electronics.
You could be right on the money on this one. Years ago that was a shade tree mechanic solution for a dead altinator, but now of days with every vehicle having a computer running the show. This application could cause more problems then it solves. I do have a DC original Shop Manual, I guess it is time I crack the book and see if I can't offer better advise.
When all else fails read the directions
It's time for me to study to give good information, other then tell tales of what worked years ago. I recall an old Laurel & Hardy skit where the dropped rice in a radiator to stop a leak. Now I am ageing myself, I'll report whn I have usefull info.
GOOD LUCK
