Right up out of the get go I admit pure ignorance on this subjet. I'm an old shade tree mechanic (IE: I'm confused with new technology). Any way since their is a plethera of people who are L.O.S.T. , I submit this question. with cooling issues being what they are. How does this suggestion sit. Install the hood vents remeniscnence of the old Buicks.
Go to :http://www.autotrucktoys.com/liberty/Jeep-Liberty-Fender-Vents-C4125.aspx
Then add in say inexpensive computer fans on each exhaust hole, giving additional cooling?? I do proclaim ignorance on this issue. So I'm just throughing an idea out there.
If I'm being a dummy guilty as charged, but off the top of my head it seams to have possibilitys.

I am an "old" shade tree myself and am always looking for something different, new, unique, better, whatever and I have looked at several ways of doing the same thing (letting or getting some of the hot air out from under the hood, and I keep coming back to the hood louvers made by Run Cool www.raceace.com, check them out also.
Talked to one guy that had them and he said it was unbeleiveable how much hot air was coming out of them even in the winter. He had a set on a Cherokee

Spend some time cruising the junk yard and find a set of hood louvers or vents for Way cheaper from another vehicle. A lot of XJ guys use the ones off the Lebaron and they can usually be had for around $40 for a pair or cheaper if bought at a yard.

So you all are really running that hot huh? I'm surprised. I run around in the traffic here in the desert w/ the A/C blowing and I am always at the middle of the gauge. The only time I have seen it get hotter than that is when I was running through very loose sand in the heat and it was bogging down a lot. IT still never went over 3/4 on the gauge.

You probably want to do something like I did on the TJ
I would not go with a small fan ,I heard a tail of a guy who did and those fans dont like water
the set was $75 and makes a huge diff.
You can feel the heat coming out of the vents

Jason what are those off of and where did you get them? I like cheaper and ones off of a LaBaron may work also found a lot of people are running ones from a 94-96 GranPrix GTP only problem I see is a lot of them are plastic and I want durable!

I have looked at Run Cool also. My temp gage never goes over the 1/2 way mark but heat trapped under the hood is not good for the wiring or anything plastic. It is on my "to do" list.

Well now here's my question...if you were to put those in...how hard is it to cut the sheetmetal and not ruin the paint or the metal or do you have to take the panels off. Sand, cut, and repaint?

I have always sat at the half way mark on my temp gauge but id be lying if i said there wasnt a "cool" factor, no pun intended, to adding some louvers

I got them from here
http://www.genright.com/
Easy to install once you get past the
"holly crap I am about to cut holes in my hood" factor
no paint issues
I used blue painters tape and LOTS of it to keep the jigsaw from tuching the paint
then I removed tape after the holes were cut sanded the rough edge then retaped
and covered the entire hood with paper other than about 1/4" around each hole and painted on both sides
then all you do is rivit down the louvers with the rivits that they supply
you need a rivit gun[/url]

Thanks Jason, it looks as if they are pre drilled are they? Also since you have seen them first hand which ones do you think would fit on the KJ hood the best since it does have a little curve to it. The loner narrow ones or the square ones?
Mine runs in the normal position but still when you raise the hood it is darn HOT under there so anything would help, plus I really enjoy cutting holes in various body panels! Plus look more RACEY!!

They are predrilled
IMO ,and I laid them up there to have a look, the 2 smaller ones that I have would look GREAT
and they would look even better if you had black trim on a blue or red KJ
I would not worry about curves in the hood as you put them down the will flex to the shape of the hood

Thinking about it I should have snaped some phtos with them up there
what a dummy
