Moose,

The trimming is for a 2002-2004 KJ or a 2005-2007 KJ?

Hard to tell from your sig, it references your new ride, the D44 Cover caught my eye and I was going to ask you how you got that to fit the 8.25 diff.

I had a '06 Renny. All will need trimming...

Got the BigHorns mounted today. Looks like some fender/bumper trimming will be needed

It seems the front only rub on full turn/lock on the foglight housing. The rear doesent rub at all

The best way is to put them on, turn them, and mark for cutting....

Oh, and if you can, jack up each LCA while in a turn (once each way) to simulate a stuff...

Also, your rear may catch on the rear door flair, or not, just be ready for a trail mod if it does :twisted:

Would the 235/85/16's clear an ARB front bar?
I'd be riding up sh%t creek without a paddle if I need to try and trim my ARB front bar :cry:

So how did these tire turn out? Is there alot of noise from them and how much trimming did you have to do? Ive been looking at these tires and notice that there is some siping so they may be decnt on the snowy roads, let me know what you thinkof them!

I have Goodyear MTRs 235/85/16 with a Frankenlift under my 06 CRD. I had one mounted on the spare so after I installed the lift, I could check for clearances. I did not have to do anything in the rear and the front had the usual pinch weld pounding. I compressed the front suspension with the tire mounted on each side with the steering maxed left and right. This gave me the two marks and I simply connected the dots left to right with an airsaw. Many people relocate their washer bottle but I felt comfortable with the clearance on mine (I think the location is different in the CRD) and I hit the exposed portion with hard undercoat.

How much lift does the frankenlift give? 2.5"?
Reckon you could do use a favour and measure from the center of the wheel to the wheel arch?

Finally got around to checking clearance today. The 235/85/R16 Maxxis BigHorns (32x9.50")seriously rubbed the front air dam and fog light housings in parking lots at full lock. Little/No rubbing in the back of the front wheel well ( the pinch weld was previously eliminated - pounded flat)

Got crazy with an air powered body saw (think air powered Jigsaw on steroids) :shock:

Cuts the plastic like butter :wink:

Just cut away the plastic inner fenders wells and air dam until it didn't rub anymore. Driver side didn't take much - passenger side there is issues with the washer bottle

I'll try to get pics this week.

Ed - you are correct - only a 2.5" Rusty's lift - no rubbing on the suspension - just the plastic

JasonK is running an ARB and had big tires too (little shorter, but wider). I rememer not even worrying about the tires when we installed that bumper. I wouldn't fret an that mate.

My pleasure. I was at a jeep party over the weekend, and we were playing a interesting game. in front of each tire you put a 2"x10"x32" board that has been soaked in oil. Attached to the far end (from the tire) is a 8"x8"x10" piece of railroad tie, also soaked in oil. The object of the game is to come up on the planks against the ties, then climb up on top, but not go over the top. Anyways, the narrow tires allowed me to be the first, and one of only three jeeps to make it up. Not, the really big rigs in the following posts didn't make it up

Moose was it the narrow tires and / or tire tread that really made a difference? I know the narrow ones would help but would think tread would as well, looks like a good time was had by all!
Would be an interesting test to do with different kids / brands

Here's the cut on the driver side:

Here's the major cut on the passenger side. It doesn't rub the bottle, however I may re-locate it if it causes problems (I zip tied the harness and tube out of the way):

It was a combination of airing down to 9 or 10 psi, tread and width. Those big rigs had MT's too, and were down to 8psi. Width was the biggest difference.

Sorry for the HiJack, it seemed moderatly relevent to the virtues of the 235/85 :wink:

Thanks for the pictures on the trim work(Good Job!), You just made up my mind on what size of tires to run next time around. I wanted to stay with the 235 narrow tires for the snow/ice up here but i find my 235/75/16's look to small with my lift. So how do you find the road noise on these bighorns? And if you get any snow/ice where you are let us informed on the traction in that kind of weather? By the way the tire look Great!
