Bogged!

Spent Saturday night camping at Tin Can Bay visiting friends, then late Sunday morning went round to Rainbow Beach and up to Inskip Point (never been there before). Liz was driving, and when we got to the end of the bitumen I said "Just go a little further so I can see the ferry". Got to the end of the track and hit the really soft, loose sand and there we were, well and truly bogged.

Got snatched out by a great guy in a Patrol - he'd give a good hard snatch, we'd move forward a few metres, then he'd lose traction, stop, back up, and have another go. Pulled us all the way to the hard sand near the water line and then back to the access road, although I was actually driving the second bit, i.e. strap was slack all the way. Many thanks to you, whoever you are!

Lessons learned - never try to go onto the beach without pressuring down and being in the correct gear!

Oh, I forgot to mention - we had 1500kg of trailer behind us as well!

Just as well Hutch hadn't arrived by then, or he'd have had a good laugh.

Glad you made it out Chris.
I was on Stockton on Sat and got stuck in really soft stuff.
It was quite patchy up on the dunes. Hard packed sand with big areas of soft stuff.
We broke out the shovels and away we went.

I don't think I'd have had any problems getting out if I hadn't had the camper trailer on the back.

Ed, I'm looking for a set of shovel brackets to either attach to my roof basket (the same as yours) or to the Rola roof bars. I can't quite tell but are there a set on your racks or do you just stow the shovel?

Anyone have any ideas whether such an animal exists?

I have the Rhino commercial rack. It's the square tube ones and the shovel holder is a Rhino one which slots down the center of the square tube.

If you are handy, you could use a jockey wheel holder to hold the shovel's handle.

You can see it here, it just sits next to the basket.

It was a very nice day. Not a cloud in site.

That is Stockton Beach... around 30-35km long and goes back a km or two with some massive dunes thrown in for good fun.
If you have google earth, look up Stockton, Australia.

Don't worry mate we had the strap out a few times over the week mainly for the two newbies we had on the trip, on hitting the beach at Rainbow in the first five minutes we had to pull out the suzi, and i was two lazy to get out both straps and ended up partly bogged myself as i got to far into the soft stuff to get the suzi out. anyhow a Cruiser gave me a quick tug and i was good, then we put two straps together and she was all sweat as i was on the hard ground.

It's an RFI. (RF Industries).

It takes real genius to get a Suzi bogged! I remember a barbie in a dry creek bed about 23 years ago where the Hilux's and Cruisers were stuggling to get up the bank and this little Sierra just kept running back and forth as if it was on tarmac.

This was no sierra, it was a 2006 vitara with about as much clearance as a pregnant sausage dog. Not good fun at all, lets just say that it has all of the plastic protector plates removed over the week.
