So i got a 02 jeep liberty sport and its bone stock

I'm looking to get a Rocky Road 2.5" budget lift system and i'm looking ti fit the biggest tires possible on the jeep and from what i get on the site that would be a 265/75/R16 correct me if i'm wrong, could i go to a 285/75/R16 this is what i had in mind i understand that i will need to get wheel spacers and do some moding to my fender wells like beating in the pinch weld and some cutting of the plastic, but how extensive

just looking for some advice on the matter

I was reading this on the rocky road outfitters web site, anyone got any imput?

While our 2.5" systems can barely fit 265/75 tires (on 2002 models only), those tires can rub in certain situations and may require extra tweaking for proper fitment. We love the extra clearance and mean look of the taller tires, but some folks cannot accept any tire rubbing at all. If you are uncomfortable with a tire rubbing on plastic in any circumstance, consider going with the at least one size smaller, maybe two. For those who want the MAX setup, we have found this to be the 265/75 tires, on stock wheels, with a 1" wheel spacer. We knock down the lip on that protrusion at the rear of the front fenderwell. Just keep in mind the fit considerations we have raised before purchasing your tires.

First thing I would do is read a lot on here and also BLOCK OUT RRO from your computer!
Buy a good lift from the get go, RRO has a couple but......read up on lifts on here as well ask a lot of questions, everyone will chime in here shortly but 235/85X16s or 265/75X16s are about as far as you can go on tire size and that takes some cutting in the front for sure, pound down the pinch weld behind the front tires, and then trimming in front as well as needed.
285s are too big

As long as you never want to turn or even flex the rear at all then you may be able to fit these(285/75's are 33" tires).265/75's will require some heavy trimming both front and rear with a spacer lift,now with the Frankinlift with HD coils will make it easier since they net over 3" with that lift.245/75's are your best bet with the least amount of trimming.

I'm not to worried about trimming and what not to make them fit, how about a 2" wheel spacer that should help out alot?? also i'm looking to use my stock rims...

I'm not a fan of wheel spacers,better off getting different rims with different BS,but try to stay under 1 1/2" wheel spacers,use locktite,and check the torque often on them.Plus pushing the rims 2" out you will run into major problems with the rear,like ripping off the rear flares,extended bumpstops in the rear will be a must anyway to keep the rear flares on.

so I could do 285/75/R16?? its just gona be alot of triming, wheel spacers with a 2.5" lift... most likely gona have to put up with some rubing off road?

I still dont thing they would fit I believe steering would be a huge issue. I have 31's with 4.5 of BS and had to do quite a bit of trimming. Not trying to bring you down but I think your asking for trouble.

You get some from AllJ's or make some of your own with hockey pucks.

As far as the 285/75's,they won't fit unless you do massive trimming(ie-taking off the front flares,front bumber,rear flares,and such),more then you want to do,it'll ruin your KJ.Stick with tires no taller then 32"(265/75 and 235/85),your going to have to up the lift past 2.5" also with a clevis lift(look in the tech section for that) and extra upper spring isolators in the rear.Plus when offroading the front diff will be more prone to explode with 33" tires(285/75's),you'll need at least 4"-5" of total lift to fit 285/75's and be very,very easy with the skinny pedal.Don't forget also your diff gears are 3.73's,I'm dogging real bad with 265/75's with 4.10's,285/75's with stock 3.73's would be awful,not to mention death to the tranny since you can't regear any lower then 4.10's(should be running 4.56's with 33" tires in a KJ).

On the Liberty offroad there would be zero advantages that I can see to going with the 285s unless your in soft sand all the time. Tire width gives few if any advantages off road, the tires height is the important thing, hence the reason for the design of tires on tractors, the way wagon wheels and Model T tires were built. Look at the tires on the Camel Trophy expedition vehicles. There's also a reason the Interco tire people still make and sell a huge amount of tall skinnier tires, they work best off road over the widest conditions.
