How do we feel about the rocky road outfitters rockfather 1. compared to their combo lift. Or even a rustys for that matter. I have around$ 400 to spend on a lift whats the best for that price?

Save another bill and go with Rusty's, upgrade the rear shocks to Rancho's or OME's. Avoid RRO. just my opinion, though.

everyone on here is gonna curse them. however i do have a RRO budget. it's nice. looks great, rides nice. but i would have rather gotten a coil lift. although i dont know what the ride is like. i simply like the red powder coated coil. :D the frank seems to be pretty popular on here. the install for the budget can be done in less than two hours. the rear is like a half hour for both sides and shock switch. cake work. the front is a little more work. but easy. what ever you chose, do lift your KJ. its really amazing how much better it rides and looks, not to mention all the stares. good luck

rustys seems to be popular. im going to be building a winch bumper and a tire swing rear soon so i want something that will handle the weight. thats kinda why i was looking at the RRO rockfather for the heavier springs.

thanks for the input so far .

You could custome build your own lift with HD OME srpings in the front so your bumper won't sag the springs. Just use OME springs for the front and the bad and Rancho Struts and shocks for the front and back. Im pretty sure the price ends up being about the same as what you pay for rustys.

I know prices have gone up some since I did my lift over a year and a half ago but I got the OME Heavy Duty springs (which will handle a bumper with no sagging) Rancho struts and shocks and had 460 tied up in it. Free labor of course! I shopped around for the best prices , but wanted the best so it took me two months to get everything together but I am very happy with it. If I had to do it over again and do it cheaper than a Frankenlift I would go the same route.
Dont look at only the price of a lift, its an investment

only my thoughts and yes they are strange at times but I am happy in my world

Is that all you need is springs, shocks, and, struts. How much lift does that give you.Are the bump stops and other acc. (plates) and such with the rustys pointless?

Yeah pretty much. It depends what springs you get. I've heard OME HD's with give just as much height as rusty's coil lift but they dont sag. I have the strut plates to comensate for the sagging of my rusty's lift. Other than that i like it..

Save a bit more money and go with the Rusty's coil lift. BTW - welcome to LOST. Be sure to check out the Rockies section. The guys in UT aren't extremely active, but every once in a while we get together with our KJs.

Save people say save money with Rustys ???? After 3 years still trying to fiqure that one out? ???Rustys are weaker springs, they sag after a while if you run them with an aftermarket bumper, you can buy OME coils etc for just about as cheap,

Oh well thats why there are different dealers/ springs etc for different people.
BUT if you are going to be running an aftermarket bumper then go with springs that were designed and will handle the weight OMEs, 400 lbs -vs- Rustys 310 lbs, now which one do you think will last!
Oh and mine sits just at the same height of any Rustys, have installed one used and one new Rustys in my garage and mine is right there with them

My thoughts and 2 bucks will get you a cup of coffee

Tom

I didn't phrase my sentence too well. He said he has about $400 to spend on a lift and wanted to know if he should go with a RRO lift. My advice to him was to save up some more money (because $400 will not ship you a Rusty's lift) and then buy the Rusty's lift once he has enough funds.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm in no ways an expert in KJ lifts, but I do know that the Rusty's coil lift has performed well for me.

With the CRD and a winch bumper, you'd be better to go with the new 500 lb. rate OME 790 CRD front coils and 948 H.D. rear coils.
RRO uses a trim spacer plate on top of the front strut simalar to their Combo kit and Al J's uses a poly coil spacer that compresses the spring to add the extra height to the front coils.
Then just add OME or Rancho struts and shocks . Al's upper A-arms would be a plus for better ball joint clearance and better alignment specs.

Don't get in a rush, research well and you'll only have to do it once.

I think im going to go with the rockfather 1. with the heavy duty springs, I have talked to them and they will upgrade me to the rear springs instead of spacers in the rear. I will wory about the struts when I get the bumper done. And since they are local it will save shipping cost. They say they will work with me on any issues if i have any. Thanks everyone

i have the rockfather 2 with HD springs....

i love it, although the only thing i dislike about it is that i think frankenlift has taller front springs

rockfather uses front spacers between the coil top and the body, much like the rustys spacer

so if you wanted to throw another spacer on like the rustys, you cant..... but you could on the franken

otherwise its a greatttt kit
