Every car maker would love to open a new market, the KJ did that, the retro roundish look was a hit and a whole new customer base flocked to Jeep showrooms and made it the best selling Jeep in the program, so what did Jeep do?
Did they do what VW did with their best seller the Golf? no, Jeep decided to change the model into something these new customer did not want and did not ask for, they made it look like the worst selling model in the Jeep range, a small version of the Commander.

You are probably right, I would be nervous too if I would announce a Renegade version of a street car.

Well you know he did not write it was just given some hype from advertising and he was trying to make it sound....well...sorta believeable... sorta. How would you like to be the one stuck out there trying to make it all sound convincing when you may not want to believe it yourself. I am sure he went home and had two or six good drinks and convinced himself that he did a great job! and lived happily ever after

I have a hard time accepting the excuse that he was nervous. Someone at that level, who's job it is to speak to the public and represent Jeep, cannot use "I was nervous" as an excuse.

He can't use word "Sorta" 500 times either but he did.

Not to defend the renegade patriot comment, but you all should go easy on the sorta guy. Public speaking is not easy. Everyone has their uhh, ummm, so, anyway, here's the kicker, etc... We often speak differently in public, or under preasure. Not everyone is trained to speak in public, or speak to a presentation. If you all could see me teach now, versus the tape I have of my first M-16 class, you would be amazed at the weird stuff I said that I did not even realize I said just to fill space. This could have been his first or fifth time in front of cameras, I have not seen him before on videos, I was not truely comfortable in a class room or briefing room until at least 10-12 times doing it, now it is easy (about 400 classes taught). Any way, this is my two cents worth. Lets lay off the sorta guy and look at the other words he says.

i dont like any of the vehicles improvements and or changes, the only thing i really like is the larger pockets and storage spaces in the interior

11:50 he says no one liked the center console window switches???? hell i LOVE them there, i can leave my left on the steering wheel and my right hand thats always near the stick - is right next to the windows

i drove the KK and i realllly dont like it, they could/should have just redesigned the body like they wanted but kept almost everything the same

dude didn't even talk about the canvas retractable roof, which i think is the coolest part of the new liberty

i also could have sworn he sort of said that they increased the wheelbase 2" and flattened the rear cargo area so they could have more cargo room for rugged offroading capabilites, but looking at the specs between the two:

-KJ 69 cu. ft. cargo

-KK 64 cu. ft. cargo

im not trying to say the sorta guy is bad, nor is his saying sorta. but when youre dealing with something brand new and you are trying to get the public to fork over $25k for it confidence is key! but, it was very hard for me to take him and that video seriously. basically i thought he a. didnt know what the heck a KK was until that morning or b. he dosent believe in the product or what hes saying, as if that whole thing was made up. the scary part is that there is at least 2 people out there that feel the same way i do, one of them may work at motortrend or edmunds.com while the other was one of those people standing out there next to him who is/was thinking of buying one for themselves.

i watched the press release for the 2007 hyundai santa fe and that guy said umm and uhh a lot, but he was very confident on what he was talking about. i would buy a santa fe from him anyday

I sorta kinda think Jeep missed the mark. If that guy is from their design department... No wonder.

I kicked the tires on a KK last night. Sat in it, looked, lotta similarities between it and our KJ's.

the glass still flips open independent of the liftgate.
the engine bay is still essentially the same, other than the washer fluid and coolant reservoirs. Hell, there's even a computer the same place the TCM is on my 02.

I really liked it, inside and out, until I opened the hood though.

NO FXXXING HOOD STRUTS? WTF? COME ON! are you SERIOUS!?!?!?

i THOUGHT my days of not having hood struts on a 4x4 ended with my Montero. The lack of hood struts when the previous model had them is inexcusable, and although I think the vehicle is SUPER nice, and 99.99999% of owners won't know or care about this difference, it screams PENNY PINCHING to me, and the last thing I want when I'm showing off my brand new vehicle is when onlookers say "well i want to see under the hood!" is me embarassingly fumbling for the prop rod to show these people that have now idea what they're looking at something they don't understand other than "oh wow, it's so new and shiny! hey, you work on cars, what's a dipstick look like?" while I make an inside joke with myself and point at them.

Honestly...that's not that big of a deal...but it screams cheapness. I'd expect it from the Caliber, the Sentra, et al, but not from a $23,000 BASE PRICE vehicle.

I too was like "wtf" !!! about his presentation.. I like confidence, like my salesperson that sold me my Renegade.. A jeep lover and he drove a Renny.

Now back to Jeeps new Liberty, i'm sure it will take time to grow on me, I drove a 01 Grand, loved it !!! Miss it. The new Grand came out, I hated it.. Now i love it after driving it.

Liberty, Hated it at first.. my salesperson showed me the Renegade, Loved it before i drove it..

Commander !!! Hated it at first, but god dang... if i were to have a family, the Commander would be my vehicle of choice.

My g/f loves the compass, she loves cars, but wants the sport utility ride.. The compass is perfect.. I didn't like it til we drove it.

Now with the new Liberty, It's growing on me.. to be honest. I like alot of the new features our Libby's are lacking.
My likes:
1.The reclining rear seats.... that's a carry over from the Compass and Patriot.
2. 2 inch longer wheel base.. Rear entry is bigger/easier.

3. Love that they kept the flat type hood.. I'm partial to my Renegade.

4. The wheels freaking rock !!!

Dislikes: No more round headlights, back is flat/squared off like the nitro/grand/commander.

Call me weird, but our KJ's have sexy rear ends !! ;)

I'm just proud to be a jeep owner..remember....
we represent the Jeep badge. the people who drive them everyday.. I drive my Renny proudly.. and my Wrangler..

There.. i feel better.
