You should buy a hi-lift, AND save up for a winch. They both have their uses.

I just bought this winch. Don't have the money to buy a warn and for the amount of times this might get used its priced right

dont need a high lift. the stock jack will be enough to get you by. i have had to change various tires on my jeep offroad and it has done the job just fine. in my opinion you only need a hi lift if you run 33s or something bigger

I would get both haha. That is the same winch I have looked into and have seen a few good reviews. Some where on here I posted a link to the website that had the write up/disscusion.

In my opinion, that's an easy question...

WINCH!

Sure you could use the jack to help pull you out, but you could also shovel ahahah! Buy that winch from 4wheel parts for 299. How can you go wrong?! Really, how often do you use a winch? For how much you use one (myself anyway), why would I spend a buck a pound for a Warn when I can spend 299 for 9000 lbs. (Costco also has a 9500 lbs for like $349 or something).

There's my two cents

the 2nd winch came in today (UPS destroyed the first one) and its NICE for the price 8)

hooked it up and pulled myself between trees in the front yard - solid construction and an excellent buy for $299

Get the hi-lift. It wont take up to much of the saving money, besides you will use it more than you will ever use your winch.

I have only used my winch to spool on the winch line, and I have had it over 2 years. The hi-lift was one of the first things I ever got, and I have already rebuilt it once because I have used it for lifting, winching (before I got the winch), stump removal during trail building, and many other things at my parents (farm/logging type stuff).

Hi-lift would be good, but if you use it on your rock rails to lift the jeep, get a piece of pipe insulation foam from the hardware store, so it wont scratch your paint when you lift.

you can also open your door to avoid damage if you jack from the rock rails

We like to spot each other over obsticals, may take a few tries but much better then having to use a winch, gives you a better feel for what and what not your Jeep can do.Never needed anything more then a slight tug from a strap anyways(not me,but Ted,and Marty  ).Now back home I have used my winch alot, deep mud sucks  ,but I do know I can winch out a F-250 crew cab sitting on 35" tires out of 4' of mud, nice to have a dependable winch(WARN 9500XP).

x2 agreed 100% bout learnin capabilities and tryin not to use a winch as a crutch, BUT I was kinda thinkin of your second scenario with mud  Good to have it then just in case

Mud sucks, especially for those of us with the 45 RFE. Trust me, already rebuilt it once (hence using hilift as a winch)

Before I got smart and now stay away from mud I would never take my foot of the gas pedal until on dry land, never done nothing to my tranny(besides flushes and filter changes),more concerned about my t-case,speedo reading 60+mph in 4-lo and the tach needle at 6000rpm  .
