I just bought a 2004 KJ and i am looking to add some things to it because i am tired of hearing that a Liberty is a chick car... so one of the things i wanted to do is to put dual exhaust on it but the problem is is that the Borla dual exhaust when installed does not go around the gas tank it, it actually goes under it which is a problem for offroading ( i dont want to tear my exhaust out)... does anyone have any suggestions or ideas how to install dual exhaust...

also if i decide to go the route of custom making my exhaust does anyone have any suggestions on what brand of muffler i should use to make the jeep a little louder/better?

Good grief, the Liberty is a "Chick Car"!.... And all these years I thought I was driving Grocery Getter.   Gee, and I don't even have dual exhaust. Am I missing something here, mine just says Jeep 4X4, doesn't have the word "Car" anywhere on it.

What are going to do now since you know that its not a grocery getter!

But back to the subject.... If you look up under the rear of the Liberty you can see that there is not a lot of free room to install a dual exhaust with out it hanging down around the gas tank, even if you go to a local shop they will have to do the same thing. Plus duals will not help it run any better, get more mileage and post people who think it is a "chick car" will not notice that you have duals anyways...... get a lift, aftermarket bumpers and change the look that way......
Or just drive it and forget what others say  where do you live? we can always send out the LOST mafia to get them

Well i was on my way to a car show and i saw an all black liberty with some mods but i noticed that they had dual exhaust that did not hang in the way :? but anyways when i bought my jeep i immediatly started a list of all the things i wanted to change with my liberty and my boyfriend suggested the dual exhaust and the only way i was going to consider the dual exhaust was if it did not hang in the way ..

I agree that it looks cool on most vehicles and have had them on several or almost all of the cars/trucks/ Jeeps etc over the years but on the Liberty the Borla to me is down right expensive just for the look. Where did you see this Liberty, maybe it was or is a member on here
If not check out a local muffler shop to see if they would have an idea of how to get it up out of the way and still not be too hot against the gas tank/ shocks/ brake lines and all that other stuff !

Good Luck

side note ...why does every Female Jeep owner have a Boyfriend already     just kidding around!

Just put a loud muffler of your choice on it and save the rest of the money for other mods that will make it stand out against the stocker KJ's. Oh and then go get it dirty wheeling it and showing what a chick car can do.

Well thanks for all the help guys... i think i am going to go the route of staying with single exhaust but putting a better muffler in there.

That sounds good but I can imagine that drone would get really old for any type of lengthy driving, no? I'm planning on getting a muffler of some sort on my KJ and I was planning on the Flowmaster 50 SUV series...

I agree use your money for Armor, Sliders, Lifts, Bumpers, and Agressive Wheels and Tires. The very first mod I made last year was right after driving it off the lot was stop at Midas for a FlowMaster quoted $369.00. I'ld just spent all my money on my down, so after checking down the street at a little independent Muffler shop asked about different system or even custom. He said forget headers (would confuse the computer more then do any good), Duel exhaust? Makes no difference to justify the extra $$$ , Finally got a MagnaFlo installed for $150.00. Since I never waited long enough to have a comparison I can't truthfully say anything was improved , But it does Sound SWEET  . Oh by the way protect your new investment and switch to Synthetic :!: :!: :!: I highly recommend AMSOIL, and Oh Yea have some fun!!! :D :D :-)r :-)r :-)r

How many times do I have to say that having a chic Jeep is good!! Why would you want a guys Jeep! I would rather have a chic Jeep so I can pick up all the chics! I guess now-a-days alot of guys want to pick up guys so more power to them.

I always thought the borla exhaust ran between the gas tank and the rear diff? I know some people were worried that it would hit the diff cover that RockLizard had for awhile.

Edit: I love that bumper darby! That would be the only bumper I would get if I was in the market. :D

It does, but you can't tell unless you crawl under the jeep a little. From behind it does look like its under the tank since it still hangs a little lower. Not quite as low as the diff cover tho. As expensive as the dual output borla have gotten, i wouldn't take the chance of wheeling with it anyway.

I know with my Kilby gas tank skid there is not that much room in there for anything else. Not sure on the stock gas skids
