Thanks for all the advice. I didn't want to spend $1400 that is why I was looking for other options.

I picked up the KJ last night. The noise is 100% better than it was before. In fact if I didn't know it was there I doubt I would even hear it. I can hear it though, I think because I know something still needs to be fixed. But it is 100% better than when I dropped it off. My bill for the rear pinion bearing parts and labor was $243 so I thought that was pretty good. The guy seemed really fair and honest. I'm working on getting the parts together now to get new or new/used gears in there and see if that takes care of the noise all together.

Anyone have a list of all the part you need when rebuilding the 8.25 rear end?

Also if I am looking to just swap rear ends, wouldn't this be a good time to update and get rear disc brakes instead of the drums I have now? What year did the disc brakes start in the rear?

Yes you can swap the rears for a 8.25 with disc's(all years had them,'03+ easiest to find),just remember to get the different p-brake cables(diff for the rear disc's) and the different metering valve located next/below the master cylinder(there are different metering valves for 4 disc's setups and disc/drum,need the right one for the brakes to operate correctly).

Most local shops around here are a flat rate of $250 to r&r gears and bearings....
When I was doing then daily (about 10 yrs ago, we were $150)

Sorry even $550 labor is double local rates around here....

One more time I'm going to show my ignorance do you use the same locker in front and back :?:  :?:
Stop laughing  I can't learn if I don't ask :!: I've just gotten so use to asking you guys I don't bother researching for myself L.O.S.T. has spoiled me  :o :P

tjkj2002 I sent you another PM

But were disc brakes an option in 02? or standard? If standard were they standard on the Limited? Just curious as I have in 02 Limited but I have drum brakes.

The export '02 KJ's had the optional rear disc's,not state side ones, drums only.

Thanks at first I thought I was missing something that was supposed to be there. 5 years late I don't think they would cover it.
