Just looked at a 2008 Liberty...

It would be very easy to do a Rear Sway Bar Disconnect for sure...at least I think so.

Interior is very Land Rover Like...big square flat surfaces on the center console.

Aluminum Knuckle was interesting?!? Don't know why but it was.

I know that the muffler was subject to offroad damage fairly easily on the KJ...the 2008 Gas Tank is in the same spot on the opposite side of the rear driveshaft. Definitely would want a "thick skid" there.

Didn't have a tape measure with me but the wheel openings looked slightly larger...very slightly. Still tallest tire offered is a 225/75/16..~29.2".

It is really hard to tell the difference between the Commander and Liberty unless you notice the different orientation of the headlights and the hood line...The Liberty has an indention for the headlight assembly whereas the Commander hood goes straight across.

Jeep Salesman was pissed the Dodge dealers got a year jump on them with the Nitro.

Visually looks bigger than the KJ ... overall lenght is longer by 2.5" even if you count the spare on the KJ. Seems like a bit of it is in the hood. Looks wider because it is square but in reality only .8" wider. Track is also 1" wider in the front and 1.3" wider at the rear. Wheelbase is 1.8" longer.

Front seat room feels bigger in the KJ...rear seat room feels the same...cargo is wider in the KK and taller in the KJ.

Definitely a smarter package than the Nitro IMHO. Just seems like a better sized package...better proportions.

If I didn't have the 2006 CRD...which I purchased after seeing shots of the upcoming KK...I would put it down as a possibility...but I have a feeling the performance of the 3.7L in the ~4222# KK will be lackluster...they should have put in the 4.0L IMO. I bet there would be H E L L to pay if the Liberty got a 4.0L and the JK was stuck with the 3.8L. With a diesel, I would definitely have a look, if I didn't have my KJ CRD...but I am stuck on Diesel 8)

I just wonder if the new Liberty will be as big a hit as the original...I hope it does well for JEEPS sake.

For Jeger:

I've got one friend who will dance with me like that. If we've both been drinking enough. It gets you spaced on the floor.

Nanette, I am sure it would get you a lot of "space " on the floor, but then what fun is it to have a couple of drinks and just dance like "normal" people!!!

Might want to compare the front diff in the KK against the one in the KJ,looks like addressed some strength issues, plus the CV front driveshaft is gone, gots U-joints now.

To be honest If you look at the KK as not a Liberty replacement like they're doing if they called it the re-born cherokee or anything but Liberty I think we all could have taken to better even call it the Nitro's Brother with attitude. But the fact is our KJ's are going to fall into the ranks of orphan vehicles. Which is what I truly think why so many are outraged. We bought our Liberty's for one reason or another, but to offer alternatives of a bigger truck without the charm or practicle features of the KJ or a neutered version with a smaller engine. Either way the KK is not that bad a truck it just is not a Liberty or at least not the Liberty we all love and support. So Chrysler misses the target one more time, I may be wrong (wont be the first time) but if they had called it anything but the Liberty We would be saddened by the passing of another good designed vehicle but not as insulted by calling it a Liberty. Just my $.02 worth

Yeah, when they get a 4x4 in there, I will take a look. Only 2x4s right now.

I priced a 4x4 Sport on www.jeep.com tonight with comparable equipment to my 2006 CRD (minus the diesel)...came to $24,500...my diesel was $24,448 before the $2000.00 Rebate. Not cheaper like they have been saying...basically about the same price.

Parked next to a Commander, the KK looks so similiear it is scary...starting to look like the Nissan Line of SUVs...hard to tell apart.

That's good for marketing...brand recognition, which is something Jeep hasn't had in a LOOOOONG time...as long as I can remember, the entire Jeep line looked different (aside from the fullsizes, since they both used the same sheetmetal). look at any other car line, and all the cars share some visual similarities. the Ferd cars have that 3-bar chrome grille and I mistake Explorers for Expeditions of all years 95 and up, the Honduhs all...well...they all look like Honduhs, and all Dodges look like they're the offspring of a Viper and a vacuum cleaner

I personally would've rather seen the Jeep brand recognition go the other way, with everything having the round headlights and rounded off hood edges and such of the KJ and TJ/JK, but at least they're going for a theme. Then again, the XK is going bye-bye in 09, and maybe that'll bring us a more Commander-esque Grand Cherokee (YK? FSK?) Perhaps a Commander-ish spin on the old Forward Kontrol trucks (FK?) and maybe a long wheelbase four door Unlimited of the FK, called the FKU?

I'll stop now...stupid insomnia

For a minute there I thought you was trying to spell a bad word but then I decieded not to spell it out.

New liberty or not - we'll have to wait and see them in the real world before we pass too much judgement on the new trucklet

Aside from the wheelbase and the option of the 4.0L, what exactly ARE the functional differences between the KK and Nitro? I think I like the Nitro better...and the wheelwells look quite a bit bigger than that of my KJ or the KK. Anybody think that future KK lifts would fit the Nitro?

one major feature is the addition of 4lo to the tcase...also don't quote me but i do believe that the liberty has a 5 link rear end vs a 3 link in the nitro...If im wrong please correct me

yep.... If it came 4x4 with 4lo and 20's.. id be called a h3...this is how jeep is trying to steal some of the market from the nirto...and remember, THE NITRO IS BASED ON THE LIBERTY, NO THE OTHER WAY AROUND...I think that this was dc's plan to see how the nitro sold before they let go with the kk

need to live in an area with a lot of people who work at the Jeep plant then you may have a different understanding of what is and isnt with the Nitro and KK! Next door neighbor does the final inspection of the drive train before it leaves her area, she has told me some interesting things that have been happening with the build.
