Been following this and all I can say is I want to follow some of these drivers around and see how they really drive. I can smoke my 255-70X16s if I want to but in normal driving and in snow I never have a problem, of course I have driven in snow for over 38 years so maybe know how to drive on wet or snow covered roads better. It will be interesting to see after one winter the results of this "test"

I admit that I have a heavy foot, but I still have problems without the FT4WD even when trying to keep the rears from spinning in certain conditions. When we go a good amount of time without any rain, and then get some, the roads here can get very slick. There are huge numbers of accidents and traffic becomes horrible. We just got some rain this morning so it took me 35 minutes to get to the office instead of 15. This afternoon it had rained enough for the 2WD to work fine. This morning, trying to start from a stop, especially while turning right at a light, without spinning was virtually impossible. I either have to be extremely light on the skinny pedal, or just put it in FT4WD and drive however I want. Of course, you also have to consider the torque mine gets to the ground at low rpms. I don't have torque management, and I've got 4.10 gears, a torque converter with a 2500 rpm stall and a 2.53:1 multiplier instead of 1.93:1, and efficiency about 6% higher. I also have a 3:1 first gear instead of a 2.84:1 first gear like the newer KJ's.

Fascinating

Well, apparently I'm just a maniac driver with no sense of how to drive in the snow or rain (have lived in Canada all my life!) You' all are right, thanks for setting me straight. I'll give up on the 242 and just turn the keys in!

Nope you are not, that is why I bought the automatic because if you give me a standard stick I become mister Grand Prix Racer . Hence I end up replacing the clutch ever 18 months. I admit it I always wanted to be SPEED RACER

For my first question on a forum it seems like I hit something here :D

Currently I am running 235/70/16 Dunlop Rover RVXT with only 5K miles on them, they were a big improvement over the 225/75/16 goodyears. The thing was the goodyears still had 75% tread on them went I replaced them. I was power sliding every where in the rain with them, the Dunlops I can get the power to down but still spin a bit. But when I am at a stop light I just can't let the old lady in the mini van get across the intersection first. Must have more traction.

Its not the rain so much, it's that the spining in the rain reminds me of what is to come this winter. And I can upgrade my transfer case cheeper than buying a set of tires or a LSD.

Its not me driving a manual trans because I have been driving 20years and have only driven 5spds.(only one clutch) My last speeding ticket was over 10 years ago in a company truck.
