I was looking around to buy some MOAB wheels and new tires and thus a lift for my KJ. But....I walked through my neighborhood the other night ans saw a 1978 CJ7 Golden Eagle for sale by owner. It is auto tranny dana front and rear, quadratrac 4x4, soft top, bikin top, set of full doors and set of 1/2 doors. It was daily driver till parked end of '03, has V8 and 156K, solid frame and body rust in the usual spots.

What do y'all think about price?

i'd say 4500... that's a little less than they're worth.. but i think about the most he's going to get out of it. just sold this one for 3800

of course it only has 25,000 miles on a straight 6.. but a nice top and bikini and all that jazz too. we kept the winch at that price.

I would check it out real close esp the frame and then you have to look that it has been sitting for 4 years now, so how much will you have to do to get it running again. PICs would be helpful as far as paint condition, price could be as low as 1000 up to 45/4600 maybe

make sure to check out the area around the rear shackles ESPECIALLY, when checking out the frame. for me, that's a buy/no buy proposition for a box frame CJ

also check the rust on the rear corner panels, sides under the door and floor pans. most decent ones i've seen 4-6K for stock to minor mods. Bought mine for 6K in '92, little rust , 3 tops, 2 sets of doors, about 35K on a rebuilt motor.

Yeah I might try to take some pics tomorrow and check those areas but the wife is really against this purchase...has hinted she would rather me buy upgrades for the KJ instead.

It is a tough one for me as this is the exact twin of the Jeep I wanted to be my first vehicle I tried to buy as a kid back in high school but my dad vetoed because I should have something "more practical". I have been watching for one ever since so my judgement may be a "lil clouded."

I recently bought this one on Ebay for $5900
The guy i bought it off of only had it a month and he spent $8000  (i found the old auction on Ebay where he had bought it)

it's got an AMC 360 V8, auto trans w/ manual valve-body, Dana300, hard top, bikini top, good frame, decent body, etc...

i've added a flex-a-lite dual electric fan to the engine, new heavy duty steering linkage (tie rod was bent), got a soft top for it, POR-15 and truckbed lined the interior... more to come

this pic was taken the day i brought it home... i don't have any pics of it now... only had it a little over a month now.

edit: oh yeah... it's an '85 with 96000 miles (no idea how many miles on the rebuilt 360)

It has some pretty sweet mods on it and even if you want to play more 59 isn't a bad price. Since it must be running you can take your time and add as much as your heart or wallet will bare. You've got a great start and their are so many different ways you can go. I am envious, just haven't the space to play   . Go out and have some fun now.
