Hello all,
This applies to 6 speed owners 05-07 models. I know it is a pain to have to crawl on your backs to get under your vehicle, if you wouldn't mind crawling under there and posting what the tag says on your transfer case.
Mine says 241 J. I was wondering if yours says that as well, or if it says 231.
I appreciate it....have a good weekend.

241? interesting, I thought the 241 was the transfer case in the Rubicons.

the 241 came with all six speed manuals. for 05 and 06 and 07. the 231 was mated to the auto and i belive the old 5 speed.
the 241 is a 1/2 and 3/4 ton truck transfer case used in dodges and some fords and is alot stronger than the231.
and it is not the same 4-1 case in the rubicon. it shares alot of charactersitic of the rubicon case but has different internals. mike

again this is not the same T-case
the NV241 that comes in dodge 3500 and is an option in the 2500
it is the NV241HD and will not fit under a KJ it also has a PTO port
The NP241 is basicaly the same as a NP231 different input and bigger housing

Brian & every one else
I dont want this to sound like a pissing contest
but fact is KJ's have NP cases in them
and for that matter the weaker of the case offered is the NP242 and I would bet that less than 1% of all KJ owners would push their KJ harder than what a NP242 case can handle let alone the NP231 so to sit there and and drool over a "stronger" T-case is just dumb

It is simply a marketing ploy to make you think you are getting some thing special so you pay more for a case you do not need and they pay very very little ,Chrysler owns NV who owns NP and after some time this year will be owned by some one else so who knows what you will get

I have a NP242 in the KJ it is more than strong enough for a KJ
My TJ has a NP231 it is SYE'd and next year will be terra lowed
I know what I have and what it can do/have done

nv (new venture) and np (new process) are the same manufacture. the only difference is the wall street name change after the wall street merger or sell off from the big three partneship.( i'm not sure which of the big three oppted out but i think it was g.m.) but as for the hd i don't know the difference between the hd case and the regular. but i invite you over to my place i really do have a 241 under my kj and it came from the factory. it is my understanding that the 242 is a full time case. i do not have fulltime. i have the command track system (part time) and the tag on my case says 241. also i have the 231 case on 2 other vehicles and the 231 case is significantly smaller than the 241 under my kj.mike

Please read this thread, if you have already then I dunno why you are brinin up stuff that we already know and have covered in this thread  http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=24945

Yes NV and NP are the same company BUT there is a big difference between sayin you have an NV241 (4:1 ratio, only in Rubicons) and a NP241J (2.72:1 ratio, which some of yall got in the 6spd KJs).

i don't know whether mine says nv or np but it does say 241 and i DO NOT have the 4:1 ratio.

Mike
what you and other's still fail to realize is that there is a differance between the NV and NP case
back in '03 Jeep started putting the NV241 in the rubicon to give it an edge over the other TJ's
it was built with lower gears and is slightly stronger
NP cases were the common case and the NP231 is the common case for Jeep's
now they did use the NP241J in V8 grands wich is basicaly the same case used in the Dodge Light Duty line
as well as the GM light duty line but it mounts different

Now knowing that it is possable to have a NP241J in your KJ
I even posted that in fact yes they used the NP231HD wich is the same as the NP241J ,case wise
now in the past year or so they started moving things around so who knows what name will pop up on cases
for '07 and so on

Lets look at this if you own a KJ and do not have 4wd full time then you could have
1 of 3 T-cases and not even know wich 1 you have
NP231
NP231HD
NP241J
at least with a YJ,TJ or XJ you know
NP231 ,wich is kinda like the TJ of the after market world ,they make every thing for them
SYE's ,4 to 1 kits, 2wd low range

You guys are posting with out READING
READ ALL THE POSTS BEFOR YOU SAY SOMETHING DUMB
