I didnt like the way it bounced up that hill in the video you posted. If it was just that hill I would bet that most peoples stock kjs would not have any problem getting up it (that hill definitely does not merit 4 lo). Looks like you should swap out your gears to accomodate for the bigger tires if you havent already.

A 5.5" lift with 33's would make a Liberty sit about 7.5" higher than stock, right?
(5.5 inches of lift plus the 2 inches of clearance the 33's give you under the axles compared to stock ~29's)

To me it seems like that would be dangerously tipsy at speed. Even on the trail, there's a point where jacking your rig to the sky stops helping you. You're much more likely to roll in places like Moab if you get too carried away with lifting your rig.

[edit] I'm not slamming swmpthg's rig. I'm more looking out for his safety. I admire him for being a pioneer in the KJ part of the off-road world.

See you wonder why i stated all i see is negative comments. Why are you so determined to keep dawging this guy? seriously let it be, your turning some nice people away from this forum. this forum is not to compare your TJ to a kj, everyone knows TJ outperforms a KJ so who gives a darn? So cause of one thread I am a negative poster? I am not determined to "dog" this guy I just wanna see some wheelin shots/vids and he obliged. They may not be what I call wheelin but whatever who gives a stinky poo to each his own right? At least he aint a poser like the CarDomain website kinda shows. I seriously doubt that I am turnin people away from this forum and I challenge you to prove that to me, BUT NOT IN THIS THREAD. PM me if you got some issue with me, and if some of yall leave this forum for good cause of a thread like this then yall are kinda soft wouldnt ya say?? Thick skin is a virtue, try it  Im done with this thread cause I dont wanna turn it into a pissin contest and keep gettin singled out like this, you got issue then PM me. Got proof, PM me. Otherwise enjoy your jeep and keep on truckin 8) O and as for the TJ v KJ argument I dont feel the need to shove it in anybodys face and I havnt done so yet.

i do not need to pm you for anything. I have made my point and everything to back it up is in this thread, all someone has to do is read through it and see you have played a big role in pissing this guy off more then once in the same topic.

He shouldnt need to have thick skin to come to this forum because nobody is expectin to come to the LOST forum and get bashed!

Put it in his point of view, hes brand new here and showin his rig and gets bashed right away after his first few posts. Would you be excited to come back? lol

I'm going to go ahead and weigh in on this:

I love how swampthing didn't even originally post pictures of his KJ and is getting dogged. As for some of the unsavory things that have been written, I'll respond with an Einstein quote:

'The only source of knowledge is experience.'

If someone somewhere doesn't try new mods on their KJ, we'll never know if said mods are feasible and we'll never get them on ours :P So stand up Swampthing, sing it loud and sing it proud! Cheers

Part of where I have been coming from is the fact that there was some un named people ( we all know who you are  ) that tried several different ways of lifting a KJ and also how high would be the best a few years back. Now different ones are trying different things, which is great, but..... most of us just want to know what they (swmpthg) did different and how it is effecting the KJ as far as ride, handeling, alignment issues etc. Some have went off on a tangent about junk tires but so what, most are just wanting to know more! We are all on here to learn and share so lets keep it that way...

I'm still wondering if you climb hills like that in your KJ...especially that KJ on 33s of yours.

Calling you a negative poster because of one thread is something like the old saying "A man can build a thousand bridges in his life and never be known as a bridge builder, but if he blah blah blah's one blah blah, he'll be labeled as a blahblah blahblaher for the rest of his life"

It is not because of a post in a single thread. His name or "moniker" says it all...kj in a tight spot...and he does not own one. That should be your first hint...here are just a few posts I found in about 5 minutes and there is a general theme to all of them:

Have a good time payin for all that...I am runnin an almost 5" lift on my TJ (kinda custom) and it was WAY less than that, plus I can fit 33s, and could easily fit 35s no problems Not worth all that for a 32" tire yall, dont get hung up on the whole 4" thing just cause nobody offers one for the KJ yet...

Uh, Yeah...those are called "bull bars" by most of the world...then there are "brush guards"..."push bars"..."bumpers"...ect. The funny thing is you know the piece he is talking about...right..?

Funny, when I think of a bull bar I dont think of a hollow piece of bolt on bling from the local Pep Boys that barely has any structural integrity, cant be used as a recovery point, and couldnt even take a small hit from a rock...but thats just me I guess I am well aware of what the so called bull bar in that pic is yes thanks

There Are a few and I saw a pair of them work in Moab last year plus many trips w/ allyrands here in So-Cal . Come check out his approach and departure angles and his Awesome breakover and you will see what I mean. Ask Seth about dragging other long arm vehicles off rocks during his Rubicon trip where he Had no hang ups or problems. (IIRC)
Oh and why is it that Some TJ's are streatching their wheelbase and tummy tucking their bellys anyhow??

Not looking for a an argument, just pointing out the +'s of an SFA KJ.

I aint lookin for an argument either Not sayin the SFA KJ aint a cool thing and Im sure it does real good offroad, BUT I was just statin that as far as angles go its gotta be given to the TJ, I dont see how this is debatable personally. Yea TTs and stretches are popular on TJs true

Atleast a more veteran member stepped in to let him know because he wasnt going to listen to me. But i hope we can all get along after this, maybe have a mod clean up the content in here a bit?

have this thread more helpful than critical

kj in a tight spot, i really didnt want to start off on a bad foot with you man but i felt compelled to say something here because i didnt want this new member to walk away from this forum with the wrong impression of how this forum is ran. And i know you didnt like hearing it from a fairly new member but i someone had to say something.

Hope we can get along after this.

All in good here on L.O.S.T. . Brain has been here and has contributed in positive ways 99% of the time...and we all have bad days

One other thing, I know we all take some things personally but don't. Brian would be the first to help you on trail if you needed it and he would do the same here.

I've seen a lot of crap that TJ & XJ drivers like to post up against KJ's & that's probably why I tend to spend more time on LOST than else where. Brian seems OK to me, we all have bad days (good intentions but perhaps a but if KJ envy  ). Anyway back to Swampthing :D

Is your rear spring out because it's not a long travel spring?? what's the go there :? .

I was wanting to ask you if you cut your CV's as suggested with the new 4" lift? It seems a little extreem but perhaps not (just dosen't seem like a good thing to do). I'd be interested what you did there to either help it with your flex or prevent it from flexing that far as to cause a problem.

Any chance of a pic of your rig on level ground next to a stock KJ  or even a lifted KJ.

I had to download flash player to see it in action, nice to see the wheels turning.

Anyone see anything different here? Besides the sway bar missing and the wheel spacers that must be on there, where is the lift?

KJ in a tight spot,

I, for one, agree and am thankful for the interruption from the Moderator. I found your posts so JU like that I was calling you JU mentally before reading your posts. It quickly went from JU to Pirate guy. However, no matter how grating your posts were this past week, for what it's worth, I give you props for coming on and publicly apologizing to the board when you could have just left. It took a lot to do what you did and it shows you want to stay. Which is good. I mean, you could be a valuable resource for guys thinking about putting TJ stuff on their KJ.

Unlimited,

Thanks for making it come to a head.

Swampthing,

I am sorry you have been the recipient of an off-week here at LOST. Especially with you not even originally posting and then having to defend yourself, a newbie no less. Things arent usually like this. Anyway, welcome to LOST and I hope you stay. It's a great source of knowledge and the people are friendly!

P.S. I like the look and name of your rig. Keep up the innovative work. The thing looks like its a beast. Now, to the hardware underneath... :D

Dave

Anyone see anything different here? Besides the sway bar missing and the wheel spacers that must be on there, where is the lift?

Now really have my attention but I admit I don't recognise the change you've made. Are you related to Chip Foose??? On several shows with him whether its Overhauleing or Rides .Chips favorite mod has so many suttle changes that when you look at it you can't tell the difference untill you take an old stock model and park them side by side.

Well, I can see the OTT spacer. I assume the strut must be longer, as well.
