[rant on]

If someone blows their cool and hurls a personal insult I can almost excuse that. It's rude and not to be encouraged but understandable. What really irks me and what I think brings down the quality of the board is when entire groups are attacked or equated with being less than whole people.

Getting temporarily bent at another individual is one thing but fostering bigotry is something else entirely and the fact that it goes on less here than on other boards is NOT a consolation. The admins here are but a small part of making L.O.S.T. the best place for Jeepers to come to; every one of us should be working to make L.O.S.T. an inclusive haven for anyone interested in or passionate about KJs in particular and Jeeps in general.

So, for me, it's not the (perceived) sudden appearance of the thin skinned that's worrisome; it's the re-emergence of bigotry in the form of thinly veiled racism and vulgar slurs for 'homosexual' that are used to identify things weak or unworthy. So yeah....what is with the forum behavior lately?

I grew up with far from being Leave it to Beaver. we picked at each other all the time just a family thing, but the first person to say something bad about a sibling their was war. So I try to look at L.O.S.T. as my new family we can pick and tease each other all in good fun. But don't hit below the belt. We laugh have fun getting muddy and playng in the dirt, and when we loose a member we pull together and morn as a family :( . We are just one big extended family  :D

I musta missed the racism and bigotry on here...trust me this site is REALLY tame yall compared to others. I would say sheltered even cause lets face it, the people on other sites wouldnt waste their time on here cause they dont respect the KJ. Bottom line and I think we can all agree on that. Its prolly just as well cause this kinda stuff dont happen much, but when a few feathers are ruffled people get bent outta shape. I guess I must be guilty as well but thats just the postin style on other sites and Im used to it I figure...The guys on the other forums Im members of (Pirate, ROF, R4WDA, Southwest Jeeps) all have VERY capable rigs and we all have a lot more in the way of Jeep Tech and such over there, but I still enjoy comin to this site now and again to hear bout new stuff for the KJ and such...

Just wanted to throw the reminder out that this is a family-friendly and oriented forum.

Thus, the reason it is more tame than those other sites. If you want to let off steam, get offended, or call others names, go to another KJ website or.......

......go yell at your fish.

Oh fer tha sake of Cripes...everytime someone finds a picture of a jeep with low profile tires and big rims it's a turkey shoot and the apparent goal is to see who can come up with the most clever code word for the 'N' word. What do you think the terms "gangsta", "pimped", "ghetto" or "Compton" refer to? Billy Jo Johnson back in Possum Holler?

It's interesting that you announce that you've never seen bigotry on this site. You recently contributed to a thread wherein it was posted "The less mannly (sic) we feel, the easier it is for them to push the lame agenda on us". This shinning example of humanity continues on in his post to repeatedly refer to environmentalists and their "boyfriends". How is this despicable and ignorant trash NOT bigotry?

Thin skinned? Dang skippy I am and I invite everyone to be as thin skinned when it comes to people being vulgar thugs.
What's that quote about evil flourishing when good people do nothing?

I see "gangsta pimped out" (if you will) vehicles driven by folks of all types. The use of those types words varies greatly depending on where you live and will carry many different meanings in each place, even different age groups will use words like that more loosely than others. Dont put everyone in the same boat.

I will agree that for some the use of those words is NOT a conscious effort to replace a word they'd rather use but feel they can't. I use the F word six dozen times a day and I'm almost never using it to mean what it really means. That doesn't make my mom any happier when she hears it.

The fact is those words (and all the various words having to do with sexual orientation) carry enormous implications especially when used in a mocking or denigrating manner. This thread is questioning the civility (and it's apparent downward trend) of L.O.S.T. As if to prove the OP's point a number of people's contribution to this discussion has been to ask so-called "thin skinned" people to quit whining and become comfortable with a certain level of ugliness because it's uglier elsewhere. Yeah, that's working toward a solution.

Yes, it can always be worse but guess what...it can always be better too! Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can go about making it better? Are you saying that there's an acceptable amount of bigotry?

Bro. (meaning brother) I dont know you at all we have never met but if you think that I am vulgar or post vulgar or bigotry laced statements then I feel sorry for you.
I think that you are blowing things way up for attion.

I would like you to keep in mind a few things about me so that you know "how I roll"
I think that people ,kids, who get all tattoed and pierced up do it because they need a hug
that their parrents never gave them.
I think that there are way to many "posers" in this world ,people who claim to have this and do that but it is just a lie
I think that eliminating things like dodge ball and tag and chase is what is making people "thin skined"
I think that the "every one gets to bat in peewee base ball is making people "thin skined"
I think that the fact that if a kid acts like jackass in school he can not be made to coppy pages from the dictionary is making people "thin skined"
Now that I think about it I think the term thin skined is wrong
the term was know as wimpy back when I was in school now you can not call some one that because it might hut their feelings
I think that the biggest problem today is not what people say but more so that people do not think they should listen
If you hear a song on the radio that you dont like you can change the chanel ,but no if a song is played and it offends some one then it can not be played on the radio
This is wrong and not what this country was founded on
we are all here because of our differances if our forfarthers liked the way things were they would have never left
do I think cursing and using vulgar words is ok ,yes if it is the time and place but I do not think they should be banned
just like the right to bear arms ,I have a good feeling that 200 years ago no one ever thought that we would have fully automatic wepons but if I want to carry my hunting rifle in my jeep to and from the camp then I should not have to worry about having to anounce it to the police when they pull me over
if I dont tell them I have it right when they pull me over then it is off to jail like a common criminal
my hunt spoils and I have to explain my self
this all because a few people say "guns kill people" last time I checked I had to aim and pull the triger my self

Why did I go on like that
because YOU said some thing that I did not like and rather than complain with out pointing a finger
I simply told you where I stood
Do you have to like it? NO
Do I care? guess what NO
if it makes you upset then reread it and maybe you will understand
if after rereading it you still do not under stand then you need to study US history and ask your self
"If I were living back then do I think any one would give a darn if they said some thing that I did not like or that made me up set?"
The answer is 5 lines up and 5 words over

Do you need a hug?
Cry me a river then build a bridge and get over it.

Jason

Dave, I know you locked this, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents.

Hey guys....
We all work really hard to make this a friendly, family place, but the bigger this place becomes, the better the chances are of it collapsing on it's self. And this place is getting big. With all the sections we have, there is no way the Mods and Admin can read every thread. That is where we need your help. If you feel things are starting to get out of hand, see what you can do to calm the situation. Take one for the team. Let the water run off your back. I'm not saying we should all sit around the campfire giving back rubs to each other. Some debate is good for your soul, but pick and choose your battles. If you have to think about something before you post it, maybe you shouldn't post it. And of course, treat others the way you would want to be treated.

And if all else fails and someone is way out of line, please contact a Mod or Admin. We will do everything we can to resolve the situation peacefully.

Thanks for making this the best jeep site in the net......!!!!
