I found this and thought it was a good demonstration.

I'm not getting into the math...

I have 2x 130w lights on the bumper
2 more 100w on the bumper
6 100w lights pointing forward on my roofrack (changed the normal 55w bulbs for 100s)
2 100w lights pointing backwards on the roofrack.
a 200psi Viair air compressor

normal alternating and an Optima yellow top.

Running ALL OF IT with then jeep running drops system voltage to just over 13v

Optima is the easiest way to do the upgrade. You can't imagine you could run enough lights to kill the battery when it's running with the 130 alt. When it's not running, the alt is meaningless.

I built the deck on the front of our house with that air compressor. The Optima was down to around 9v after recharging the air tank as needed over a 6 hour period of building. Started the Jeep at the end of it.

All good info.

I understand about the deep cycle battery. I too plan to get either a red top or yellow.

BUT the question is when KJ is running.

I understand that running high draw items for a long peroid of time on a barely or under capacity alternator can cause pre mature failure of that alternator.

I know I can run what I want to run when i want to run them. I just want to make sure I can get out of what ever i am in to when I need to.

Make sense? Does to me. 300.00 for an alternator now avoids a 400.00+ repair in Kooter's garage in Bum F*$#, along with a huge bill from larry, Daryl and Daryl's towing. Sounds like good protection to me.
