My Lib desperately needs tires. I have the Freedom Edition, with the 17's on tread with at least half its life left, but the stock tires look soooo puny on it. I wanted some AT tires badly, since I have Rusty's lift. I looked at Tirerack, and they have good prices on General Grabbers AT2's, but shipping is insane.

I call Sears, and they looked it up for me. I told them about tirerack price, and when I got there he sold me the normally $140 tire for $87! Turns out they match prices, even with competitors, EVEN online. He ordered the right size for me, 245/75 16's to go on Moabs, but charged me for the smaller size. I pointed it out, and he winked at me pointing at my chest, where it said "Combat Medicine."

Awesome. When it is all said and done, I got 5 new Grabbers, mounted, balanced, and road hazard warranty for $660. Can't wait till they get in.

Dang good deal and nice tire guy. I always forget about Sears price matching and I always seem to hear about it after I buy tires.

Im excited. I like the Moabs I have (also another good deal, see http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... highlight=) now to get them shod in Grabbers! That has to be one of the coolest names for a tire. I know they are heavy, but I think they look great, have a good warranty, and are a perfect combination of on/offroad performance

If I was concerned about mud, I would have gotten a mud tire. As it is, I drive the roads most of the time but wheel occasionally and travel on rocky/nasty roads a lot, up grades, etc. All terrains suit me just fine.

Nice to hear about a vet getting a good deal just 'cause he's a vet. Thanks from me, too.

I tried that last weekend...there is a sears next to a walmart in Des Moines. Buggers were at $145 and wouldnt move. Walmart is getting me 255/70/16 grabbers for $117 mounted. Sure not like your deal...balance and road hazard and all. About the grabbers, I am expecting them to be better in mud than BFG AT, more room between lugs, even more so on wider sizes. I am ready to give them a go when i get them on....provided they fit :?

You're welcome, and I appreciate the support.

Can't wait to get those tires. Comes out to just about $133 per tire, mounted, balanced, and road hazard for 5 tires. Not too shabby.

I Got my Grabbers a couple of weeks ago. So far they have been great I have to test them almost daily in the dirt since there is road construction going on and they advise an alternate route   . I can't wait for the snow to fly. A number of friends have asked about them, even had a guy walk up and ask about just out of the blue in a store parking lot. I live in Reno so I go right to their warehouse and pick them up, so no shipping cost. :)

$660????? there's some serious hidden charges in there. no offense but what with the $200+ bucks to mount balance and throw on the car? that seems a bit extreme. At $87/tire that comes to $435 for 5 tires. I understand theres some tax but most places charge like $15/tire to mount and balance. something seems a miss. My 5 new AT tires ($103 each -- $16 more per tire than yours) cost $515 plus tax ($550 OTD) mounted balanced and lifetime rotation with roadside hazard for 3 years. Replace any tire that has a mishap...seems like they got you on the backend. Just curious.

Even with tax and mounting of 5 $87 dollar tires, it should be well below $600. Just using OH sales tax of 7%, yours should be around $435 (tires) + $75 (mounting and balancing and disposal of 5 old tires if needed) + tax is around $540+...give or take whatever your tax rate is....seems they are getting about $120 too much (which in my book is an additional 6th tire!). before they put them on, have him spell out the numbers for you at Sears...seems wrong. Just lookin out for ya  because the $87 price match is awesome...but sometimes they make it up elsewhere without you knowing it...one tire guy tells me that all the time, and my new tire dealer states right off the bat, "NO hidden charges" right when you start talkin numbers.

At $133/per tire mounted and balanced...they are charging you almost $50/tire (including tax) to mount and balance each one. that sounds too high. is it me, my lame math or am I missing something????

Just double check is my point. Make them carry the GOOD deal throughout the whole process.

You are right, Im going back to Sears. I looked at my paperwork and somehow got charged $147 for labor, and some other stuff. It doesnt help that tax in TN is 9%

Its still a good deal. This is how the price worked out.

$87 x 5 for the tires =$435
$2.99 x 5 for the valve stems = $14.95
$2 x 5 local tire disposal = $10
$1 x 5 state environmental fee = $5
$14.60 x 5 road hazard = $72.98
$13.99 x 5 mount/balance = $69.95

and the killer....

9% sales tax = $57.75

For a grand total of $665.63

It still a good deal, in my opinion. Sears has a great road hazard program, free replacement, etc and I can get it serviced anywhere, whereas tirerack you cannot. Besides, I have never seen free shipping on Tire Rack.

awesome!!! my whole point (and I hope it came across as so) was to double check all the fine print charges and you did...sounds good and definitely post up some pics when you get the new shoes on. 9% tax...ouch...can almost feel Uncle Sam's fat little hands reaching into our pockets!!

Cant really complain about the 9% sales tax, Tennessee does not have income tax, which for me is great now that I am a civilian making a lot more money. I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Thanks for the heads up about looking at the finer points, I hate getting ripped off.
