it usually dosent get extremely dirty, just the usual road dust and hard water stains because i park near a sprinkler. i really had to wash it hard this time because of all the layers of dirt. on a black car u see the grayish film if you dont clean it well the first couple of times, i had that so this time i used loads of elbow grease and got it sparkly!

there was one time i got it muddy and one of my chaplains said he wanted to see it all muddy and filthy so i left it that way for a week for him, then i wash it. i like to think i take decent care of my kj, im not overly anal about every single dirt spot on it, but im not going to let the paint erode either. and what i think matters because... i pay the note every month

because i dont want any more of that gray film!!! so next year with the kj, im gunna be a little more proactive about that because that waas a PITA to get off. then another reason why the kj dosent get washed often in the summer... black vehices get toasty in direct sunlight in the summer, lol. and like i said, since i live in a dorm, there isnt much shade. so u have to work fast which means you miss spots n stuff and in the end it looks a hot mess. the other day when i washed it good, it was alot better outside. nice n cool i could take my time and have fun with it.

dont get me wrong im in no way bashing all of the kj's, mine in particular hasnt been the greatest so far. with 6k on the odo, ive had more dealer visits than i would have liked to have. i really enjoy it and the places it has taken me, so once we get all of the hiccups worked out, i think my warped rotor and self shifting transfer case are the last 2 things, ill probably take even more pride in it and keep it which is what i really want to do. at least i can say that once problems are fixed in the kj they dont seem to come back, always a plus!

winterizing a car? the only thing i know about is making your coolant ratios good

and throwing some scrapers and chains in the trunk area....

the stuff you did is a weekly wash!

waxing it helps in the winter too, it helps protect the paint a little from all the chemicals and salts they use on the roads. i usually clean the undersides and the wheel wells during and after snow season which also cuts down on premature rusting and corrosion. as far as safety stuff, i got the scrapers in the car, the extra blankets, my aluminum LED hand torch, i gotta get flares sometime next week but u have the reflective triangles, first aid kit, dont NEED tire chains so i probably wont bother with them. when i take it in this friday for the 6000 mile service interval they are going to check the charging system, coolant, fluids, tires, brakes, and all the other important stuff. im not expecting anything bad since i did just get it in june.

They are using some new chemical mix to help melt the snow and its supposed to be pretty bad for the paint so i put a few layers of wax on it, cleaned up the underbody nicely. Then tune up is in a few weeks

I had hoped to have a lot done before winter hit, but she is knocking hard now... Got our first dusting last night... only stuck for a few minutes, but looking at the mountains from my back yard winter will be here sooner than later...And no days off makes it hard to do anything... This month sucks!!!

"the rainy season"

We actually get our big thunderstorms during the monsoon season which runs from early July through and into early September.

USAFCOP - white stuff already?! Now THAT is living closer to the sun! What's your elevation? (bbbrrrrrrr)

We got a little bit of the white stuff last night up here, also. I also saw a small herd of deer running through town, headed to lower elevations so, I think winter is definitely just about here.

You Rocky Mountain folks aren't alone. It's snowed twice here in the last couple weeks. It gets down to the low 30s some nights. Then one day it was randomly 82°. The only place the weather is crazier is Kansas. You can go through three different seasons in one week there.

My old show truck:

I really need to clay and seal the painted part in the wheel wells, they seem to be the first place to rust.

got about 2-3 inches between last night and today, looks like more is on the way for summit, is it just me or is the snow coming late this year? I recall it snowing as early as september here in the CO rockies last year.... anyways all I do to get ready for winter is drop the tires down a few psi and make sure the wipers still work good.

Well I got new wipers for the jeep last week and we also replaced the wipers and battery on my wifes car for the upcoming winter. The other reason we replaced her battery is we were having some electrical issues I was hoping to fix with a new battery. The door lock switches on the armrest haven't worked since I had to replace the batteries in the keyfob remotes. And last week we were driving and the driver's side power window wouldn't work either until we had been driving for over an hour. The Mustang is an 04 with a build date of October 03 so it was pretty much due to be changed anyway. Unfortunately the new battery didn't help with the issues we had. Oh well, I guess we need to take it to the dealer. Oh yeah and I washed both cars last week. Hopefully I'll be able to find someone to help me put the hard top on later this week.

I been running the Liberty through a car wash. one of the new fangled ones you sit and a cable drive system pulls you through been doing it for 2 years now and it uses cleaners, wax and then the last two are clear coat and than rain-ex and it is all I going to do this year. makes the wheels look new. LJ have to hand wash it because of the soft top. What wax is good to use.
