Ask for calibration records for the radar gun and everything. Get a court-appointed attorney ANY time you go to court for any reason if you can't afford to hire your own-that's what they're there for!!! There was somebody that said something about getting subpoena forms and subpoenaing (sp?) EVERYTHING involved...the radar equipment, the officer, the ticket book, calibration records...I've never gone to that extreme, but it sounds good to me:)

Trust me, I spent 3 hours in a holding cell with REAL criminals over a clerical error involving a loud exhaust because I declined court-appointed representation...THAT sucked! And the drug dealer in there went on a nice little tirade while i was in there.

"You did WHAT and you're in here with US? THAT'S MESSED UP MAN!!"

The best advise was given in the first post! Maybe it would be better to stay off the highway and go mudding! :D

This is the best advise, if you ask me.
I've gotten out of two tickets because of this. Cops assume you don't know you can ask. Just ask to see the radar gun's calibration record (has to be calibrated every 3 days round here), if it's over the limit, you're off. If they can't show you your clocked numbers on the radar gun, you're off.
I don't know what you do after-the-fact, but you might be able to ask for the calibration records to see if it wasn't calibrated when you got pulled over.
The first time, I asked to see the numbers, he immediately changed subject and told me about how my rear license plate is bent making it hard to read and that I smell "skunky" (I'm 19 and have 2 feet of hair). I said, "OK", since I knew it wasn't true. He went back to his car, pretended to file some paperwork I'm guessing, then came back to my door and told me to "get moving, but make sure you don't speed".
Second time, I asked to see the numbers, he pretended he didn't know what I was talking about. I told him that my lawyer said I can drive off if he didn't pull me over for any "legitimate" reason, so I asked him if he had anything other reason to pull me over for. He said no, so I said "goodbye" and drove off nice and slow. He followed me for 2 miles but then pulled over for whatever. I'd never just pull away from a cop like that, but I could tell he was full of $h!% and probably never used his radar gun to begin, and since I wasn't going crazy fast he can't pretend I was driving wrecklessly (doesn't need a radar gun to determine).
I have gotten pulled over for speeding and asked to see the numbers a third time (but this was the second, chronologically). He showed me and I got the ticket. I can't stand traffic cops.

If you were driving through Pickaway County you got stung. It's been renouned since the '60 as the badest speed trap in the entire United States, or so thats what my father told me many many years ago. No longer have family there butI've heard it also from other family members. Sorry :!:

18 pts? Ummm....time to start driving sensibly for a long time.

Ohio is the ultimate in getting speeders. The Troopers are everywhere.

My trips from Colorado to Ohio are amazing. From Denver to the Ohio border (about 18 hrs), I will see maybe 3 or 4 law enforcement vehicles. When I get into Ohio, I will see about 15-20 by the time I get back to my hometown (2 hrs).

Request a supporting deposition - should be an option on the back of the ticket. Usually you you need to do so within 48hrs. A typo or mistake in the supporting deposition can get the charges dropped. Sometimes the cop will not fill out the paperwork and you can get off. Also plea bargain. You can usually get it reduced by half. If the officer fails to show up in court you can get it dropped also.

Wouldn't it be a lot simpler to just obey the traffic laws? If you are going 20 miles to a store and you drive 10 to 20 mph over the speed limit, you will NOT get there much faster than if you drove the speed limit. But it cold cost you a lot.

Plead no contest
here in Louisiana you can do it once a year
and if you dont get another ticket for a year then you are good
the best part is that if you get speeding ticket and plead no contest then 3 months later get a running a red light
you can plead no contest ,different offence
I know I used it 3 times in 1 year
speeding ,red light and turn signal all 3 no contest and cort fees ~$100 each but you pay cort fees even if you plead guilty
I drive 25-30K a year so I get tickets

True...but it IS going to happen again, and again. From the sounds of it there is a small collection getting started. I'm not trying to preach, and in no way am I a do gooder! I have been in a gang and busted a lot of heads in my time. Just trying to save the guy some $$$ and grief.

I understand that, and I think he might've learned his lesson now.
