I have narrowed the list and have a source for getting these tires at cost! Now I need to pick which ones I want so give me your suggestions based on ownership/usage.

BFG All Terrain T/A KO

all 235/70R16

these will be on my daily driver plus any snow and my ugly,steep,gravel 1/8 mile driveway.

BTW, I have read reviews of the BFG's getting near 100k wear. Really?

I doubt that any one individual will have had experince with all of them

From what I remember when I researched tires, I would say 1) General Grabber AT2 Ha! But really: 1)TA KOs, 2) Revos, 3) Yokohamas, 4) Destination, 5) Dueler HTs. Just my opinion.

Revos are at the top of the heap. BFG's don't carry a treadwear warranty for a reason.

Yokos or the Bstones are what I'd recommend.

i put 50k miles on the last set of bfg's that i had on my f150.
rotated them about every 8k miles.

thats the best a/t tire on the market, and what i would recommend.

thanks for the info guys. weird that I have read many reviews at Tirerack on the BFG's getting over 80K on them. whats the real deal on these tires? they were at the top of my list with the Yokohama's next

go with the bfg's. there a bit more $$, but you can put some miles on them, and they're a great tire. not loud at all, good tread, tough tire.

when comparing on tire rack take note of the far right column in the chart. It shows mileage driven for the reviews. some of the highest reviews are on tires that barely have miles clocked....not really a TRUE comparison when BFGs have millions of miles reviewed and others have thousands.

BFG at's suck in the snow and wet. 3 4wheel drives I have purchased have had them on and all three have slid off the road no other tire I have ever had has slid off the road so you decide just a coincidence I doubt it they suck. Just my oppinion.

I can't comment on the other tires, but I really like my BFG KO's. The 245/75/16's are heavy, and the stiffness of them did make the ride a little more harsh, but overall they are great. I bought them used with about 2,000 miles on them and have had them on for about 4,500 miles. Haven't had any issues in wet or snow covered roads.

i had the bfg's up in the midwest for the last two winter seasons, and they performed flawlessly.

must be a coincidence that people have had bad luck with them.

by far there are more positive reviews on this tire than negative.
thats proof in the pudding.

I can think of a few variations in tire performance that have little to do with the tire itself.

1) did they get the right tire size for the vehicle? - the biggest that fits probably won't be as good in snow (may be great on dry pavement)
2) did they use a reasonable tire pressure? - we've had at least 2 folks who were convinced that they should run max pressure, and I suspect more who don't check it regularly.
3) overall car condition - if the shocks are dead - it impacts tire performance. (hot cams on V8's can overwhelm really good tire traction)
4) how you drive - if you're super cautious - any tire may be okay - while if you're an aggressive driver - no tire may be good enough.

unless you have a objective scientific test you're not going to sort those out - and they'll still affect your opinion of how well the tire performs.

I do tend to like the reviews with lots of inputs - you tend to factor out some of the those, the real extremes will cancel each other, but it also limits you to the tires that have been around for a while.

BFG's do well in the snow. You must be thinking of the BFG Rugged Trail, which indeed blows.

Thanks everybody. I will probably go with the BFG's if my source comes through. Now what is the best size on Crager Soft 8's 16x7? I am stock right now and probably will be for a while.

235/70/16
225/75/16
235/75/16 is probably the biggest you would want to go
I personally would go with with 225/75/16 because they are slightly taller and narrower, and I know some tire companies make their 235/70/16 in a P rating instead of LT, but if all of those come in a LT weight rating then its pretty much up to you, the renegades come with a 235/70/16 and all others come with 225/75/16 stock.
