What is this green sight glass people are talking about? Where would I find it?

It is on the flat top of the battery toward the front outside/fender side on my original equipment battery.

Just look carefully around the top of the battery. The sight "window" may have accumulated "crud" over time, and you just need to wipe it off. It is a small circular window slightly smaller than a dime in diameter.

As you look down into the battery through the sight glass, you should see a green fluid color if the battery is good.

that window lies, I've seen enough batteries test bad with the little eye greener than anything. replace it after 3 years. After that, it's a time bomb waiting to kill your radio presets and make you late for work, because it WILL pick the MOST inconvenient time to act up.

Five years!? That is rare. Congrats! I hope mine last that long. I just hit three years on mine with no problems *knocking on my head (wood)*

We just replaced the original battery in the old mans 00 cherokee this summer, it started the jeep just fine, but you could hear the difference between his and my cherokee during starting.

I took his used battery which started his jeep fine and put it into one of my Zs, the Z has a high compression motor and the Jeep battery wouldnt even turn it over.

From what I've seen old lead acid batteries will be fine for many years, but even if its only a few years old and its let to drain completely, it can kill it. Letting a battery drain down only a few times can just kill it.

I tend to agree with you to a great extent. I view it mainly as a reassurance that the battery has a good level of fluid in it.

No I don't actually thinking about selling it . Have 3 other vehicles and the Liberty is in the garage so the other two are always in the way in the driveway so I end up using them more.

Liberty escapes the garage for road trips and Saturdays.

optima red or yellow are the best replacements but are pricey.

Here's another option:
https://www.expeditionexchange.com/odyssey/
The PC1500 fits 03+ KJs, or 02s also if you trim the battery tray. I put one in a few weeks back.

when my engine died on my 02 kj, after they got the new one in, it wouldnt crank. 42k miles. what are the chances, so i had to get a new battery so they could start the brand new engine. it was perfectly fine before the engine died, cranked every morning and even last winter cranked just fine in the cold.
