I've got that - it fits on a CRD -it is close however and there have been a couple of times in 4wd that I can hear it bump (accelerate, back off , accelerate combo) so something for the outside would be a good idea.

Well I found a diff. this morning...very close. They want $400 for a used...seems very very reasonable to me. I was quoted $987 w/ a return on mine about 2 phone calls before. I called them back 5 mins. later and told them to hold it for me...I'll be there later tonite to pay in cash.

Hopefully I can get it in this weekend so I'll be back up and running again. I NEED MY JEEP!! I already miss driving it!!!

Update on fabricating a diff collar. I'm a bit frustrated, my differential is larger than the 3 9/16 inch measurement I had planned for, and isn't perfectly round. The clamp almost fits, but too far off to risk damaging the housing or creating presure points on the bearings. I'm estimating another 1/32 off the inside, but still not sure the housing is round. A better strategy maybe to go another 1/16th and build up the difference with a thin piece of rubber.

Any opinions?

The kind of force that makes the front diff fail is a sudden, jarring force. If the diff collars are going to work, I believe they have to be almost perfectly fitted. If there is any gap, the force will have an opportunity to begin cracking the diff before it contacts the inside of the collar. Of course, then it may be too late, maybe not. How much of a gap could it handle? Really hard to say: we aren't even sure if the collars DO work, as they haven't been actually tested. I would think that 1/16" may be enough gap to start a diff crack. I don't think a rubber liner would actually help much in preventing the damage from occuring.

How about this? Line the inside of collar with JB weld then put it on but dont clamp it all the way down...just till the collar lightly touches the high points and squeezes the JB out all around....Let the JB weld set up then tighten it a bit. What do you think? The JB weld would fill in any irregularites and give you a nice tight fitting collar.

The problem with the Dana 30A is the fact that the part near the output shaft or front drive shaft is weak and thin alumninum. Aluminum is a ductile metal but the thickness and surface area of this part can't take the force like Snowsport said above. I think that this collar would be an effective means of strengthening, and many of those people who were in the first group buy have found theirs to work good thus far. There is no data or info to prove the theory that it works other than personal experience and opinion. I do know that I won't put myself in the situation to break another one, but things do happen and the added piece of mind from this collar is enough to help me rest easy. I also think that it will need to fit tightly for an effective means of working, but from what I've seen on mine and what bugnout has said, it seems as if this output housing appears to be oval rather than round in shape. Does anyone have the dimensions for the first collar?
