I live in the metro Detroit area, so we see a lot of manufacturer's vehicles driving around. Yesterday I was behind a Patriot with manufacturers plates that had a "3.0" badge on it. Anyone heard if they announced a V6 version?

Personally I'm hoping to see a 4.7 JK roaming around.

begs the question "Who Cares?"

Is that thing even "Trail Rated?" or 4wd?

Waste of automotive enginerring as far as I can see.

the Patriot reminds me of my 1986 Civic WagoVan 4wd (in a good way). I kinda like it and the Compass.

I wouldn't mind a Compass that sat up a bit higher (like the Subaru Foresters/Outbacks) with the 2.4 Turbo and AWD or a V6 that didn't suck, and a stick. That could prove to be quite the winter vehicle.

Patriots are definitely not going to be hard core...but RRO has a 2.25" lift and Nerfs bars out for them already to fit larger tires. They do have the "TrailRated" version...with the CVT Tranny...probably good for some offroading...jeep roads...camping trails, ect.

To each thier own...it does have a 110 outlet that is cool...

V6 would make patriot fly! It is lighter and lower, I would like to zip in a patriot 0-60 in 6 seconds. :)

I am serious.

Aside from keeping the freaking EPA off their butts, WHY HAVE IT????

Why disgrace the "JEEP" brand name with a crappy mall bound grocery getter?

I say screw the EPA and bring back the inline 6 4.0l

I feel better now.

I sort of agree with everything but this sentence. There really isn't much reason for the Compass/Patriot to exist though, since the Caliber offsets the CAFE standards. Course, the more little fuel-efficient models they offer, the better they can make the JKs and Ram Power Wagons;)

That is why the KJ was born to begin with, to replace the XJ and the inline 6 - 4.0L
They took my Cherokee away

Highly unlikely but isn't the Bluetec diesel a 3.0. Maybe they were testing it out in the Patriot.

Now that I would like to see, would have to be darn quick too.

Definately. I'd love one with the Caliber SRT-4 turbo motor and a stick. I wouldn't mind a Caliber SRT for that matter. I think I'd like one of these hypothetical Compasses in the same way I like driving AWD Turbo DSM's with snow tires in the winter. Good call.

I dont really think that the Compass cheapens or weakens the Jeep brand at all. It's like when everyone was mad at Porsche for making the Cayenne. So what? It's a really nice vehicle, and brings in more money which allows Porsche to keep refining the 911 (and cayman and boxster ect). So what if Jeep makes more money by selling the Compass? Good for them. It's just business...and the Wrangler which is basically Jeep's equivalent of a Porsche 911, is better than ever. Everyone wins.

Now, come on. I've defended the Compass/Patriot using the same exact example as you. I don't think it CHEAPENS the brand, but I DO think the gene pool is getting a tad polluted with all the platform sharing going on. I think the whole Trail Rated BS campaign is stupid, and I thought so back in '04 when I'd been Jeepless for 3 years. There's no reason to stick some stupid thing on three vehicles that had been in production for at least two years (the KJ for two, the WJ for FIVE, and the TJ for SEVEN) when they hadn't been changed one bit. Wait, stop...yeah, i think the TJ got the 2.4 liter Power(or lack thereof)Tech 4 banger in '04, that's the only radical change for that model year.

That being said, Notice I said I "sort of" agree;)

I bought a Patriot because I needed a vehicle that could get me good mileage at an affordable price. I already have a Liberty for 4 wheeling. I could have bought another small economy car but I wanted a Jeep.

Diesel fuel is almost $1 more per gallon than regular gas around here. The extra mpg you get out of the diesel engine wouldn't make much difference when you have to pay that much more for diesel fuel.

I'm not a big fan of the Compass, but I do like the Patriot. Sure, they're not hard core off road vehicles, but then again, other than the Wrangler, nothing else in the Jeep family is really a hard core off road vehicle either. Sure, most Jeeps are more capable than any other vehicle in it's class, but off road capability wasn't the #1 thing in mind when they came up with the idea of the Liberty, Grand Cherokee, Commander, etc.
