My second window regulator within the last month went out today. I started rolling up my window when, clunk, it falls into the door. There goes another $300 out the door. With this crap, I could have had a lift already.

On top of that, it also sounds like the front brakes are grinding. I've only had the KJ for 3 months. I can't afford to keep fixing every dumb thing that goes wrong. I contacted Jeep and criticized them for not standing behind their product, mainly the window regulators, since it seems like many people have had some issue with those.

I agree the window regulator thing is riduculous.
I have an '07 and already had to take it in for the window.
They smeared some grease on it and called it good, but you know as soon as the warranty is up it'll go bye-bye.
You would think they would have fixed it by the time the '07 came out.

Sorry to tell ya this, but this is the sort of thing that happens when you buy a used car, whether it's 20 years old or 2 years old. The window regulators, sure, lotta people have trouble out of them, but to complain about the brakes...that's a wear item, and you bought a used car. Should've had somebody check the car out 3 months ago before you bought it.

My 02' has 96k on it and never had a problem with them. They must of changed the design in 04' or something. You're right $300 is a lot of money to be spending on stupid upkeep doo doo. Thats more than my monthly jeep payment! Bring it over my house i'll do it for $50 plus the cost of the part. If you're handy with tools you should be able to do it yourself and save $$$.

Just remember it's a mechanical part that will fail sooner or later on any car, not just a jeep. If the car is out of warranty it's out of warranty period.

It is the "plastic" retaining clip (for lack of a better term) that breaks...my 2002 rear window did it a few times...I finally used some "wire" to keep the armature in place...

Wait, youre basing your thoughts on getting another Jeep around the window regulator?

Brakes are normal wear and test items. They need to be placed as you put miles on the Jeep. If they are grinding, then you will probably be out more money for new rotors since you didnt put new pads on it early enough.

its not that hard to climb under a used car to check front brakes. that one is on you! but i agree with you on the window regulator. not only jeep is making them cheap but almost every major manufacture has elec window problems! mike

Brakes were brand new when I got it. I checked them when I bought it, they looked like they were low on pad life, but what do I know. So, I had a mechanic friend check out the car too. He recommended new front pads, to resurface rotors and to replace the gasket on the rear diff since it appeared it had been leaking recently and the dealer had no idea if it had been replaced.

The dealer wrote me a service slip to replace the front pads, machine the rotors, replace the gasket and get the key programmed. I had it in for the service one week after I bought it. There is no excuse for the brakes to be going bad when they were REPLACED 3 months ago.

Wow, you got new pads 3months ago? Its pretty much impossible for a set of brakes to wear out in that time period. Have you looked at them since the dealer 'said' they replaced them? They probably didnt touch them if they are already worn down.

I crawled under the car today when I went to wash it to check it out. Pads look like they have plenty of life left. After washing the car, I haven't been able to make it grind again. Maybe dirt or something was stuck in there?

dirt is a possibility easily. Also you shouldnt really machine factory rotors, they are fairly thin to begin with, usually once your brakes go and need to be done and your still running oem parts, replace the pads and rotos. But you really havent had many problems, the window problems is a common issue in many cars besides the kj. And the brakes could easily just have been dirt

I don't see where you have had enough problems to be ranting, I have owned many vehicles over the years yes even Hondas and Toyotas, and so far I have the least problems with Jeep. My last 3 out of lord knows how many vehicles I have owned have all been Jeeps with the exception of the Jag my wife just bought. My Jeeps have had fewer problems and have been the most abused vehicles. I will stick with them for a bit longer.

I'm glad you've had less problems. I've been nicer to this Jeep more than any other vehicle I've ever had and so far, it isn't holding up well.

I get car repairs, but when I have a 3 year old car that is starting to have crap go wrong with it every other week, I get annoyed. I'm starting to think I would have been better off keeping the Cherokee and putting my money into the repairs it needed. At least it was paid off.

^^^^ im curious to what all these problems, because a window regulator going twice and squeeky brakes from dirt is not what i would call lots of problems

what? you've had it 3 months and had one window regulator go bad? come on! i got a camry right now with a window regulator broken and a 400 dollar estimate to fix? is my camry not holding up well (i've put front brakes on it too)?
both the regulator and the brakes are wear items. pardon my tone but i think your cryin isn't well deserved for the simple fact that the car is used and you don't know how it was treated before you bought it! mike

Did you CarFax the KJ before buying it? If not you may have gotten a used rental car from Enterprise or some other rental place, they use KJ's alot.So if it was a rental it probally had the living crap beat out of it and hey it's going to break.Plus if it was not a rental then you have no idea how the former owner took car of it.Sorry but buying used even if 2 month's old is a gamble.Sorry for all the problems you are having but that is life sometimes,"if life gives you lemons find a women that get's vodka and have a party!".

How long have you had your camry? If that has gone wrong in 3 months, then yes, I think it isn't holding up well.

You all can think I'm being irrational. But spending $600 to fix my windows in a 2 week span makes me sick and not want to waste my money on another Jeep. I can see why consumer reports and some other auto reviewers give Jeep a low rating for quality. I never saw it before this Jeep.

Plus the grinding noise started again when I went out, so I will have to have that looked at and I'm sure that will be another $500+ out of my pocket.
