you buy used you should expect some repair work to be needed fairly soon after buying. most people let small repairs go if they know they are going to be trading in a vehicle. BTW, I had an 02 Astro van that lost the drivers side window motor at 65k with a 60K warranty. also lost the passenger side around 110K. still I kept that van until 200k even with the occasional repair costs. no vehicle is maintenance free...EVER.

you got ripped off if you paid 500+ for front brakes. with one hour and 75 dollars in parts you can do the job your self!

Yeah I carfaxed it. One owner before, bought in late 04.

The service paperwork I received also had the owner's contact info on it since they took it in for the ball joint recall. I called the people and it was an older couple, late 50s, who owned it. They traded it in because they wanted something with better gas mileage. They ended up getting a PT Cruiser. They were nice people, they forgot to give back their spare key and clicker and they met me one afternoon to return it.

I just bummed. When it rains it pours I suppose. If you like your KJ keep it. I'm not trying to convince anyone otherwise. I'm only venting my frustration with my Jeep that I thought would be an adequate, low maintanance vehicle like my old Cherokee. Instead I've been cursed with one that has started breaking more often than I would expect. I doubt I go back to another Jeep if this keeps up.

Then don't go back to another Jeep. Jeeps are just that, Jeeps. Things happen, there is a reason people say Jeep stands for just empty every pocket. If you aren't prepared for that then DON'T OWN ONE! You will HAVE to dump money into it. I really don't care which make or model you buy, its the Jeep way of life, don't like it get out. Quit your whinning.

No vehicle is low maintance, all vehicles are high maintance.I don't care what anybody say's.And sorry to say but just because the first owners where in there 50's does not mean they took care of it,let alone tell the truth about anything about it.

Did the same window regulator go bad? If so there should be a warrenty on it if you had it done at a dealer(standard OEM replacement part dealer installed is 12 month's/12,000 miles on parts and labor).New parts can be bad from the get go also,I've seen it way to many times.

I doubt the people who owned it had any reason to lie about it since they weren't the ones selling it. They traded it in, it was bought through a dealer.

And no, it isn't the same window. If it were, I'd be way less ticked off about the whole thing since it would be getting replaced at no cost to me.

Anyone want to take bets as to how long until the passenger side window regulators break?

No, with your luck, it will break first use.

There are a couple of post around here on changing the regulator and your shop rate is about 3 times the cost of the parts. I would learn to change it yourself. My 96 Taurus had two regulators and every door handle fail in the first three months. At least it was under warranty. It wasn't my most favorite car but it had few failures in 200K miles.

just remember that for everything you fix that is one less repair you will have to pay for on the next vehicle you buy, and there will be needed repairs, there always is. I say make the repairs as they come along and with each one your vehicle will become more and more dependable and you will know the repair history on your vehicle.

Of all the LOST owners on here, there have been only a handful of them with window regulator problems.

*KNOCK ON WOOD* Mine go down with authority and no problems going up. That includes all of the times I have shaken the KJ hard through the Colorado Rcky Mountain trails. *Knocks on head*

Do you have kids or a big dog that use the rear windows? If so, perhaps abuse from them is the cause.

No kids, no dogs. The back window failed the first time I used it after the initial test drive. I've used the driver side maybe 15 times since I got it. As you can tell, I really abused it.

Funnier thing is that I have a friend who liked mine so much, she went out and bought an 07 and the driver window failed the first time she used it. we were just swapping war stories about it this evening.

thats what you don't get!!!! its not your use that killed it. it was the "old" people before you that is the variable. you can't verify how many times it has been used! mike

or maybe the window regulator is a piece of s*** that doesn't hold up to basic use?

Or maybe you should go trade it in on something EXCITING, like a RAV4

My XJ is a giant pile of junk. Know why? previous owners. Every used car that was a piece of crap was a piece of crap because of - you guessed it - previous owners.

If you don't want somebody else's problems, buy a NEW car.

That being said, I've been blessed with a GREAT Liberty. almost 98,000 miles (48,000 of that by yours truly), regular maintenance (although not necessarily on time when scheduled), and i've been as rough with it as I have been with my previous 4x4s. And I smoke like a chimney, so both driver's side window regulators have gotten a workout...not to mention I usually go windows-down in the summer.

Maybe the problem is that you haven't abused it ENOUGH

When you live in Phoenix, there is no point in using the windows. It is too hot for 9 months out of the year. When the weather finally breaks, everyone is so used to the heat that they think 60 degrees is too cold, including me.

Over 90000 on an 04 and I have driven it all except 124 miles, no problems with windows, even original brakes all around yet. HAS NEVER been in a shop except for 2 alignments, and never in a Jeep Dealership. You get some good ones and some bad ones no matter what you buy. I have owned Fords/Jeeps/ GMCs/ Pontiacs etc and every time I hear some one say OH you bought one of them ________ , I had one and this or that happened, so what fix it and move on, things break/wear out/ whatever If that happens to mine I will say well its happened before and now it happened to me and I will move on , not yell that I will never own a Jeep again! :? :?

I'm glad you've had less problems. I've been nicer to this Jeep more than any other vehicle I've ever had and so far, it isn't holding up well.

I get car repairs, but when I have a 3 year old car that is starting to have crap go wrong with it every other week, I get annoyed. I'm starting to think I would have been better off keeping the Cherokee and putting my money into the repairs it needed. At least it was paid off.

Hello Crimsonfox, I'm sorry your having problems. A short time back you where talking of moving to Colorado. Have you done that yet? If so I have an '02 shop manual the real Jeep Monster book. I have a plethora of tools and a L.O.S.T. buddy or two who I think could all put our heads together and give you a hand. Or If you would like I have a Mechanics Shop in Lakewood, Colorado who I would trust with my life. In six years of having him work on first my Dodge Dakota but now my Liberty. He is a 5 STAR shop, so not only does he know Chrysler he drives a Lifted CJ. Before you throw in the towel , try giving some one else a chance I have had my Liberty for just 1 year and although I was Raped by the stealership, with the help of 5 Star and enough noise on my part I recouped my expences and look forward to armor, sliders, mild lifts and replacing every signal light with LED's. Maybe even some day making a trail rig with Rockwells. But lets try to help you out first since that what L.O.S.T. is all about helping our brothers and sisters 8)
