Why is it that every CRD I look at the oil pan plug is dripping oil? I don't understand this? Badly designed plug? Does the pan strip out? Any help appreciated... Thanks

Pete

There is a copper gasket that goes on top of the nut. When you change the oil, the gasket sometimes falls into the bucket without you ever noticing it. Dealer did that to me during my first oil change (who would have thought). They had to order a new nut/washer package.

If you lose the washer it is easy to strip the pan threads as well, it is easy in any case.

Mine was leaking after a dealer service, as it turned out they cross threaded the steel plug in the alloy sump & damaged the thread. After chatting with the service manager, he has stated they will fix it. I will be expecting a re-thread or replacement pan at their cost. I have a Fumoto in the glove box ready for when it is fixed. No more drain plug for my CRD.

After reading your post I went out to do my first Oil change.
The plug was so tight that I had to use a 2 ft cheater bar on the wrench.
No Gasket!
Had to take the wife's car to find a gasket.
Oil-Tite #65273 5/8"/M14 Copper Oversized ... works fine.
