So backstory.

Old tires failing, have been for 12k miles now:

Father is back in CO with CRD for new tires, Thursday at noon I am done with classes and we are heading to the Grand Canyon for our semi-annual break hiking event. New tires need to be on for drive to AZ then southern california.

So last monday I ordered 245/75/16 BFG Long Trail, well they came in yesterday and I picked them up tonight.

Now I was able to get a decent deal on them because my roommate works at discount tire, the price discount is compounded by the fact that he would be able to do the mount/balance for free for me. so overall it was saving us about $120.

Now I get them home and unload em, tomorrow mornin my roomate was going to take them down and mount them on the new wheels for his jeep, then we would put em on his jeep later that day.

Welp, as it turns out I got 4 blackwall and 1 whitewall tire, ARG! So after looking into it they wont be able to get me a matching set here, so what will have to happen is that the 4 blackwalls get mounted, and the whitewall gets the spare, then later in california we will have to get the spare switched for a matching black wall.

Cliffs: ordered 5 tires, 1 doesnt match, will have to get new tire 1000 miles later in california.

Thanks for looking!

I wouldn't take them unless I liked them. By the way the size you got seems big unless you have a lift, from everything I've read here. The 245/70/16 seem to fix just right without a lift. I think the 75's are going to be too big. Maybe they have them in the 70 size they way you like them.
If you don't like the black walls I would not purchase them. Bring them back and buy something you like.

Well, if your current spare isn't in horrible condition, you could just stick with it for the trip and do the following:
- have your roomie order "1" blackwall from the distributor
- when it comes, assuming it's correct, return the whitewall for a refund complaining that they sent you the wrong tire.

I figure that'd be a lot cheaper and easier than sending back all five...

Not an option, we need tires now. We are leaving for a 1300 mile drive tomorrow.

If I could wait another week then I would get the white walled tires in.

The way this is going to work is the roomie will just mount them all up for me today, the white walled will go on the spare, then it will get switched out with the correct tire which will probably need to be orded in california.

And yes 75 is a little big, but ill make em fit.

Current spare is in poor condition:

can't you just turn the OWL to the inside whether spare or on the ground?? then all the black sides face out...or am I missing something.

edit to add....I just reread...its a white WALL and not white letters...so white walls are the same on both sides huh??

no, its white lettering, and they are asymmetric tires, so it cant just be reversed.

I just call em white wall cause its easyer to say and type compared to raised outlined white letters.

just curious...when one has uni-directional tires like that, obviously the spare will also be a uni-directional tire. What happens if you blow a tire on a side of the car that doesn't allow for the direction of the spare???

Its not a unidirectional tire, just asymmetric, it has an inside edge, but otherwise it can have rotation either way.

If you have directional tires then often they are not asymmetric, meaning they can be switch left right if they are unmounted.

If you have asymmetric tires then they are not directional.

Come to think of it I cant think of any directional and asymmetric tires out there, though Im quite sure it is possible.

Not suitable for a Jeep, but here is your asymmetric, directional tire...
