i was looking to do a body lift on a 1998 f150 4x4.
the cost of the poly body lift is $150 which is a good price, but was
wondering if anyone has done a body lift on a full size truck before.
i got a quote for installing and it was around $500.

if i can do it myself , i would rather.

any issues, like the steering extension, or anything like that ?

i posted this in the other 4x4 forum, but it doesnt get much attention..

look at this factory lift on an F250. 6" lift. Note the size of this truck next to the H3 parked next to it. Not my truck, but rode around in the back some when we tailgated at the St. Louis/Browns game. It's freakin high!!! Guy paid 56K for this one of a kind custom built from the factory...3 months after he had it, it got stolen from his garage!! Doh!! Police found it stripped of 18K worth of stuff...his buddy works for Ford Custom and he rebuilt it back to original...

my brother in law is a mech. owns his own shop in wisco.. he did a friends lift on a f250. body lift. its a big job. lotta hours and lots of work. i would have a pro do it. not sure of price but he's a good guy and im sure if you emailed him he would answer any questions. not saying to use him but as a person that has done it and may even tell you some tips on doing it. you might try sending him a email. mpr3@charter.net there is a lift kit for sale on craigslist now. 9" lift for f150-250 ,,$250.00.

hope it helps you out.

I've put one on a toyota pickup before. Major pita especially if body bolts are rusted. Usually comes with drop brackest for the bumpers and radiator. You'll need to line the cab and bed back up again since it will shift/move when installing the spacers. It'll take you all day if not 2 days. Cheap compared to a susp. lift.

The body lift isn't bad. Bout 5-6 hours. The problem areas are the moveable pedals if ya have them need to be bent a bit. The front bodymounts in the rad. support need to be drilled out to 1/2" (sux). The body mount bolts in the cab are under that carpet. Make a small slit with a razorblade to yank em out without pulling the interior loose. You also have to raise the bed and cab at the same time, as the body lines gouge the paint on the cab when the bed bends around. The steering should just be a spacer between the column and shaft. its been a while since I did one, but it was easier than a ranger.

Travis

Oh yeah, that superduty lift isn't ford. the dealers have wised up and are now lifting and blinging them. its nice to work all that into your monthly payment.

Last body lift I did for myself was on a 79 Ford short bed 4WD took about 4 to 5 hours to do, had to make the clutch rod longer which was a pain but other than that not bad , if things are rusted look out though. Buddy wanted me to help him with his Wrangler, one look underneath told me to RUN...too much rust even with the 100 he tried to woo me with! If youre going to do it spray as many bolts as you can get to a week or so in advance.

i think ill have star customs do it for $500 or whatever, thank you very much..

opinions go from 4 hrs minimum to hell no, so maybe i dont want to bite that much off in my driveway.

would be a serious issue if something major happened. i wouldnt know what cuz i have never done one...

appreciate the comments... :D

btw - that lift on craigs list is for a 77 ford 1/2 ton. im only wanting to go 3" on mine cuz its a 98, and i dont want to have to alter the suspension for now, or have to replace both driveshafts. it has 140k miles on it, so im just gonna put a body lift and some larger tires on the stock rims. keeps it simple and problem free.
