Oh yea, I like my pirate earing thingy. It is all silvery and made by Warn and I just slip it in the receiver , hook the strap up and throw in in the back and close the window. I only use it when I go offroad and then take it off...........I gotta just let it dangle sometime.......

I don't really know which one is better, the thingy or the pin, but I know my pirate earing thingy works for sure as it is mudd rated........pulled me out just fine......strap got all muddy though.....darn strap.

You can jury rig a lot of things, plain and simple a hitch pin isn't made to hook tow straps to period.

Ya, i actually nearly put my foot where his mouth was, I'd post the thread but the mods deleted, luckily I saved all the ranting and PM's from him. Maybe he remembers now, because I found out his house and number without needing him to post it, I called it in the middle of the night after he kept posting/pming me with crazy talk. He got so scared he ran to the mods where I then had a discussion with them about the situation. ANYWHO its in the past, and I just like to joke about it......"brains before brawn I bring guns to knife fights"

ps, i dont want to start anything back up, just had to heckle the kid a bit

Its not made it have a receiver with a shakle attached to it either. Its not made to be a recovery point, it just turns out it is a very good recovery point.

The receiver is meant for towing, pulling something with shackle bracket would be similar the hitch pin is meant to hold something in the receiver whether it be a shackle bracket or tow hook made to go in to the receiver or a utility mount for towing or wt. distributing ball mount all would be proper use of the hitch pin. Thus having two shear points as someone previously had mentioned.

i'd fwd you the pm's i got from him if you'd like. i got so fed up i went though all his posts found his name and location went and found a phone number from his area and called him. you dont $%*& with people you dont know on the internet plain and simple. you dont know who i am, you dont know how far i'll take it. i know he remembers because i got his scared little messages. you dont forget doo doo like that, esp not over 2 months. i dropped it, with the exception of teasing him a bit, but he had left with his #$% stuff between his legs, doesnt matter, over and one with. what is comes down to is A HITCH PIN IS NOT A GOOD RECOVERY POINT, USING SOMETHING ELSE, IE A HITCH BALL/RECEIVER WITH A CLEVIS OR SHACKLE MAKES FOR A GOOD RECOVERY POINT

The argument of two shear points is just plain wrong because even with a receiver in you have two shear points.

I use both. I am not against one or the other. I am just saying that both work. I have never had a pin bend much less break, but while being pulled by a pin the front tow hooks let go. So you will use front tow hooks for a recovery? But not a hitch pin? I am done with this argument you guys are really reaching.

If I was "scared" why on earth would I give you my day time phone number?
And I can not belive that you will bring this OLD stuff up from another forum on this one
any one who holds a grudge like that has issues that extend far beyond being "fed up"
now if you still have an issue with me CALL THE NUMBER I posted up and we can work it out
that number is 504-256-2553
I doubt that any one on this board or others wants to deal with this crap

as far as a recovery point
I am the 101 event coordinator for the LA Off-Roaders Expo
I feel that the hich pin is fine for a recovery point and I plan to tech that in my 101 course
that is what the folks at Camp Jeep teach as well as at the Jeep Jamboree so that is my plan
That is also what the club uses so with all that experance off roading I would think they know what they are doing
