Has anyone had to deal with aligning their tailgate door? I hit my spare pretty good this weekend bending that and throwing the door out of wack. It seems to be hanging lower on the latch side, have to slam it kind of hard to close. Also the window won't automatically open because the door is off. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Justin

Dang! What did you hit your spare with?! Or did you back into something? I haven't had to deal with this, but I don't envy you the task.

Hit a step with it while four-wheeling.

Possibly here, but not entirely sure.

My tire blocks the window from opening if it could open lol.

never had to do it on my kj.

can you see anything physically bent? you probably just tweaked the doo doo out of it. might be able to loosen up the hinges and just realign. who knows maybe it just shifted in the bolt holes.

Yeah it's visibly bent to another KJ owner. I think someone who isn't familiar with them might not notice until they tried to open the back. The sheet metal on the door is crumpled a little bit. Going to remove the whole mount and pull it out some this weekend. Also going to try to figure out how to realign the door. Hoping someone already had done it but I guess I'll figure it out for everyone :P

Not worried though, had fun and can't complain.

Here are some pictures of the carnage.

Wheel bent upward (Also put the dent in the bumper on the same trip
:P )

Dent on the tailgate, a bit hard to see because of the sun but still there.

I did the exact same thing on mine a couple of weeks ago. The door has some adjustment at the hinges it looks like. My door is dented at the top also, but I have no idea how to fix that. I have read on here that there is internal braces on the door so pulling the dent out will be tricky.

The Rock Lizard rear bumper and tire carrier would fix it :P

Yeah, I'm going to give it a try. I might end up just putting the tire on the roof anyhow lol. I did pull off the inside panel from the door and peeled back a liner from the door. You are right, there are internal braces however there is access to the areas right behind the mounts for the stock tire rack. The top one is a little complicated because part of the window release mechanism hangs in the way. It certainly looks a little complicated pulling that dent out.

I'd much rather pay for the Rock Lizard stuff than for a body shop to fix a small dent.

Does your rear wiper still work? Hopefully it didn't mess up the wiring or the wiper motor. I just took my spare off the rear door, and I just have 4 bolts stuck in the holes. My g/f thinks it looks foolish but I like it. 8)
