I'm having some issues with my KJ. My check engine light is on, with the P0442 code. I change the gas cap and plugs (cylinder 6 had fuel on the ignition coil side).

I hear a chirping noise coming from the engine bay only when cruising and accelerating. It goes away when idling.

Performance is lacking. Very difficult to bring it past 2000 RPM, without shaking and making noise. I've been getting some bad mileage around 13 city/15 hwy.

Past 50 mph my exhaust is making some horrible noise, when accelerating. When cruising it goes away. I thought it was the muffler because it was seriously rusted and dented. I did replace it and it helped and sounds awesome @ 1500-2000 rpms (I'll post a sound clip tomorrow or monday), but the noise is still there at 2300-2500 rpms @ 50 mph+.

I can't go past 70 mph without the car shaking. People don't like it when you drive 60-65 on the interstate (in Michigan).

The engine oil filler valve had yellow residue.

Any ideas???

Coolant level is normal. Shouldn't there be another code if there was a much more serious problem like a blown head gasket.

Did it start soon after you changed the spark plugs? Sounds like youre down a cylinder.

Check to make sure you dont have any other codes.

P0442-Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (medium leak)

That shouldnt cause whats going on though.

Fuel filter or bad coil/plug

For the code you most likely have a cracked hose on the evap canister in front of the gas tank,or a bad test pump,or a leaky evap solinoid(by the battery, green cap).

I changed the plugs because of that code. All of them were find except the last cylinder. Passenger side by coolant tank. The tip (ignition coil side) had some burn marks/fuel? as did the coil itself. Hopefully there is nothing too serious!

I did have a P1494 or 1495, don't remember (Leak Detection Pump). But that went away few months ago. Checked all the hoses, looked fine.

If there are burn marks on the coil and the plug, that'd tell me to change the coil
