As long as you keep it in a fairly straight line there should be no problem, binding occurs when you make a turn.

There is some "early warning" from the laws of physics, you will find it a little harder to steer when in part time and you will also hear the tyres rub and skid on the tarmac if something is not right.

I was running a trail close to Moab with my granddad and my dad and my brother--three generations of Jeepers! :D haha Anyways, my granddad said to put it in 4-Low and leave it there. There were some times when I really didn't think it should be in Low and would have been just fine in Part Time or even 2WD, but I never heard any weird noises or felt anything out of the ordinary. Old people know best!

speaking of 4wd. are our 4wd systems fairly loud? i used mine yesterday for the first time this season on the highway(use it offroad at low speeds, just havent needed it at higher speeds to notice the 4wd whine), it was raining and sleeting and was turning to ice and was doin about 35-40 on the highway, every vehicle in sight had flashers on. before i noticed it was turning to ice, i was doing 60 then my back end kicked to the left out of nowhere and scared the crap out of me, so i coatsed down to like 35 and popped it in 4-hi

mines quiet as a mouse... i think common sense is the best guide for using 4lo or 4hi... if you need a lot of brute force at a slow pace.. 4lo is what you want. if you want extra traction or just a little insurance on a slippery road.. 4 hi is great..

I believe the manual says to use it once in awhile to keep everything lubed up so yeah, if you don't use it, it would be a little loud but should quiet down some after a few minutes (once oil gets everywhere, again).

When I use full-time at 100kph I get a slight more humm from the vehicle than without full time. It's hard to hear when driving in the rain because of the added tyre noise, but if you drive on dry tarmac with full time activated you should hear slight humming.

My step dad says the same thing. He has a cabin in the Pryor Mountains in Montana and he's forgotten to put it in 2 wheel when back on the pavement heading back to Billings several times. It's an 84 (I think) Cherokee and it runs great. Just don't turn sharp.

mines as quiet as can be also in 4 hi on the slippery stuff. I used it all last winter when everyone else was sliding, slipping and crawling through the ice with flashers on. I just cruised right around them in quiet control...fell in love with the jeep all over again with bad weather...makes driving in scary weather a down right pleasure!!

Chetos...awesome tackle in your signature...its so nice to see some defenders still tackling correctly...wraping up the arms, helmet in the chest and all that. Text-book tackle there!!!

I have always noticed a strange noise in 4LO or 4HI. It took me a while to diagnose the problem. Finally, when I stopped saying "Vrrroooommm Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr Rrrrrrrrrrrrrr" (pretend you're a kid playing with a toy truck), the sound immediately went away. But still comes back everytime I engage 4WD
