Hello,
Well the time has rolled around for me to change over all my fluids front to back. Diffs, tranny, t-case. I WHOLE-HEARTILY know I have the mechanical ability to do this, but am a little apprehensive about attempting it the first time alone by myself. I have one other snafu, that has crept up on me...I don't physically have a garage on my property. A fire with the previous owner of my home has left me with putting up a new garage sometime in my near future and has left me only with a car port out in the elements and sure enough, winter has hit Ohio.

Is anyone willing to show a guy how to change out all the fluids in Northern Ohio?? We could talk about compensation, working for beer (LOL) or whatever you might be interested in for showing a guy the ropes. Again, I would need to come to someone's place as I am garage-less. Maybe we could do this with a couple folks as sort of a "change the fluids" party...while consuming some "fluids" ourselves. I desperately want to do this on my own so I'm in the know from this day forward. I know its not all THAT much money to have it done (around $300) from my mechanics...but like anything else, I prefer to do my own work, when it can be done. I'm also short some of the necessary components like stands, drain pans, etc...

I know its not rocket science changing over the fluids, dropping the pan, resealing, etc, but would like to see how its done and help along with someone who has this under their belt. Any responses appreciated...maybe a few guys would like to do theirs at the same time....who knows, just asking and thanking in advance for even reading the long winded post. ;)

wow thanks for the quick reply...being that I totally am imposing on someone else's turf, I would leave that up to the interested party...I guess I could easily wait until the beginning of the year with the holiday approaching fast, or if something like Saturday the 15th would work...that's about the only weekend day I have available until the new year....again, I am at the mercy of everyone's timing (and understand xmas is close but wanted to put out a feeler far enough in advance so that maybe even the beginning of January might work), I really don't want to hassle anyone at this crazy time of year, I have kids and know how fast December gets eaten up with schedules/shopping/work/life in general.... I'm in Cleveland, so an hour or more drive is not out of the question for this valuable learning experience.

btw...what's the part number for the filter(s) in a 2003 sport T-case??? Annndddd....do you guys recommend the gasket replacement for the pan or going with the factory sealant stuff?? Would going with a gasket void my aftermarket warranty with my dealer??

I am in Canada and I paid over $200.00 for each Differential fluid change at the dealer.

I think this learning experience could be more valuable than you think.

Even a full synthetic fluid oil change at the dealer costs more than $60.00 (including filter).

Also, don't forget the very different opinions on changing / flushing transmission fluid!

And use full synthetic fluids when possible.

wow that's steep. Here I checked at the stealership and they wanted $550 to change both diffs, tranny to synth...my local tire place wants about $320 and my local place I bought the jeep wants roughly $290 to change it all over, not including the filter cost and fluids. I don't want to flush...in fact the jeep is running awesome, I'm just at 64K miles and the second owner of this vehicle...while it was a leased trade-in, I have no way of knowing if they kept a strict maintenance schedule and would like to get this done while learning....I think dropping the pan and changing the filter will suffice...but definitely a yes going to all synth.

I've got two words for you: insulated coveralls. I do all my own servicing too, and I don't have a garage. Everything I've done has been on my gravel driveway. Just shovel a clear spot and get to it. Course, I try to wait for warmish days! Cardboard is your friend, too. Lay down a big sheet of it, slide under there with your tools and drain tray and presto! Three frozen fingers later it's done.
