i just called the local jeep dealer. gave my vin to see if i have the tow group. according to the dealer, he garrentee's that i have the 42rle however, i have a tcm on the pass fender, and only 3 plugs on the driver's fender. also have an external trans cooler and ps cooler. under the jeep, the trans bar bends back towards the rear of the rig and is NOT straight. i told the dealer this and they still say i have the 42rle and not the 45rfe???? my build date is 1/03...i thought the cut off was 4/03??

ok, do you have the tcm(pass side fender) with 1 plug and the pcm(driver's fender) with only 3 plugs?? from what i can gather, the 42rle is limited electronic and the 45rfe is full electronic. now i was reading that the 42rle does not have a tcm bc its intrograded into the pcm while the 45rfe is full elcetronic and hense the tcm on the pass fender?? i would post pics here but it won't let me for some reason, but i did post them over on jeepkj.com

I don't know about the electronics underhood but it is much easier to look at the shape of the pan and compare that to the pics of the gaskets I posted in the other thread.

We just had this discussion. and concluded the plugs and the cross member are meaningless.

I also find it amusing that everyone trying to figure out what trans they have, look at everything but the trans. they are distinctly different, one even says RFE on the side
