Well at one point you say it will get over 40mpg and later you say that is a benchmark (like something to aim for)...is this based on a US gallon? It almost sounds like marketing hoopla...

U.S wet gallon, U.S. dry gallon and the UK gallon.

1 UK gallon - 1.2 US gallons

That's UK Gallon (the original measurement before some former colonies changed it  )

With 40 MPG benchmark I mean that it is what every 4x4 maker is inspiring to for their midsize and small 4x4's and that's also what most of them achieve by now (over here at least) and in fact the new benchmark is 50 MPG.

Remember we have the Mini diesel. Doing 64 MPG and the VW Polo Diesel doing 70 MPG and we are just at the beginning of the Bluemotion developments.

The only Jeeps which reach 40 MPG are the Patriot and Compass by using VW 2.0 TDI engines.

The benchmark for large 4x4's is 30 MPG and some are already achieving this.

Remember these are all diesels, petrol engines are a big no no over here as they need to be huge to give the same output as a diesel and therefore are thirsty so they are not only very costly to operate ($9 per gallon) but resale prices will make you cry, it is not uncommon to loose 40% in the first year on a Grand Cherokee v8.

Landrover claims this is going to one off the cleanest and leanest 4x4's out there, it will also come as a hybrid and the final production model will have 5 doors, it will be based on the Freeloader therefore limited off roading is also possible, so saving money in style is possible, yes count me in for this baby Range Rover 8)

.............and as an added bonus, I will be rid of that stupid Jeep dealer who f***s up my KJ everytime it is in for a service

Cute, it's still called the cherokee there

Amazing how they are selling vehicles for 40,000.00 there.

Do they ship it there? How much does it cost them to ship it?

Only in the US the KJ is called Liberty, the KJ (and KK) is a Cherokee in the rest of the world.

They are made in Toledo as all KJ's and KK's are, shipping costs should be not more than $1000 a unit as they are shipped by the bulk.

We have to pay delivery costs from the dock to the dealer as an extra on top of the base price.

There are some minor changes to lighting and we get some extra's like electrical collapsible mirrors.

The only major difference is that we get 3 years warranty but adding this all together we still pay nearly 2x the price that you guys pay.

What the KK is concerned, in the US it is priced at the same level as the KJ was, over here they are going to add a 25% premium as it is a new model which brings it to $50.000.

So what basically is a cheap and affordable 4x4 in the US market is being sold as a premium brand over here and technically and quality wise it can't match up with the likes of BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Landrover.

It's like you guys having to pay Range Rover prices for a Kia Sorento, you would feel cheated too.

I like my KJ a lot and don't regret getting one but next time I want to spend my money into a car that enjoyed a bit more investment on the quality and design front instead of sponsoring the Chrysler- top bonus pay outs.
