Got a extinguisher for Christmas and Im not to sure where to mount. I thought about putting it under the shelf in the cargo area but after thinking about it, thats not a good place. If a small electrical fire started and a fuse popped then the glass+door wouldnt even open... Plus if a fire started and I couldnt get out of the Jeep I wouldnt be able to get to it.

Right now its laying under the driver seat. Its a 2.5lb ABC and its kinda long but it fits. There isnt much to mount it to under there though. :?

Any ideas?

I have mine mounted on the area next to the passenger side, rear cargo window.

I wouldn't leave it under the seat unless it was fastened down. In an emergency stop it might end up under the break pedal. That would not be a very good thing! I have a large storage chest in the back and that is where I keep it.

Keep as close as possible to where you will be driving, right beside your seat in front or try somewhere right inside of the left rear seat area. may be right under the seat area. You want those where you can grab and run, not in a box in the back under jackets, next to groceries.....get the picture.. :? Those are things if you need it you need it NOW!

looks like it may fit right next to the drivers seat or mount to the drivers door so when you open it its right there

cdiekhans posted this in post your pics... I could probably get to that fairly quickly over the seats if it was needed. Takes some room away from my shelf though. I usually load that thing up when Im coming and going from school.

I mounted mine inside of the driver seat support. Looks like you have the metal holding bracket this works better than the flimsy plastic holder and should prevent it from braking loose during an emergency.

Pic of my install.

I've fought plenty of fires, Bravos, Charlies, and a few Alpha's in my 17 years in the Navy. In my experience the extra 20 seconds that it will take me to get to the rear of the rig for the extinguisher and back to the seen aint going to make that much difference. Majority of damage is done before you will even realize that there is a fire. The fire bottle is just to keep it from spreading.

Oh btw if any1 is looking to mount their gear on the interior OR exterior(roof rack)..I've heard great things about "Quick Fist" clamps...
((can't wait to get a few sets of these things))

One of these with a 6' cord... Image

It runs down the starboard side of the jeep, under the rear door sill to the passenger seat bracket and is mounted between the seat and the armrest by the seatbelt latch. I use it to for a easily accessible power supply for the iPod, iPhone, the wifes phone charger, and the power inverter mounted under the passenger seat.

Picked up the quick-pull mounting bracket when I bought mine. Used heavy duty zip ties under the passenger seat:

Ended up putting it on the shelf in the back. I can get to that in a matter of seconds through the back side doors in a matter of seconds if needed.

It says on the extinguisher not to put it in an area that gets hotter than 120F. Im pretty sure it gets hotter than that in a vehicle on a hot summer day. What does everyone do about that?

I doubt it gets THAT hot in a jeep in the northeast US in summer. Especially with the tinting in the windows.
