What would you recommend for a "do it yourselfer" who doesn't have access to body shop paints?

Where did you have to grind it down?
I can't quite tell from the pictures.

It's BOOOTIFULL!!!

Actual that is exactly how I pictured mine will eventually look (except in Atlantic Blue).

BTW, anybody looking for customer-friendly Chrysler paints, I found this:
http://www.expresspaint.com/productcart ... oduct=5464

Don't forget to get the Clearcoat too!!!

Don't know if these are any good, but for those of us without a spraybooth... :)

So, '06KJ, tell us about the diff collar install too!!!

well.. the diff. collar install is kinda a story. i found out about a week ago that a retired man 3 doors down from our bodyshop has a machine shop in his home garage. So we asked him if he was interested in machining a collar. Went to talk to him and he said sure.. but he had no alumnium.. so we found a 6x1 inch round piece of alum. for $10 at a local hobby shop (which makes gas model airplane motors). after getting that to him he measured my diff. and a few other quick things and turned it that day. the measurements everyone had online was a bore of 3 and 9/16... which was close but mine was 1/32 over that. so it worked out really well and install went smoothly. we also had him tap it for course thread bolts instead of fine. $50 total cost instead of $84 plus shipping online :D

the grinding took place inside. there are 2 brackets that are used to make sure the bearrings dont move inside the rear end. You can see where they ground it in my pictures of the raw diff. cover.. they just didnt do it enough.

i also picked up some stainless steel bolts too from a local hardware. just incase anyone would like to paint theres it makes it look much better!

Very, VERY Cool!!! Thanks, '06KJ. When you get it painted and on you have to show us more pics, okay? 8)

Also, let us know how much diff oil it needs with the larger capacity cover will ya?

i filled it with 3 quarts of valvoline syn.

i called Dan at ruffstuff after putting it on the jeep to make sure he was aware about the problem. He explained how they cant lazer cut the notch because then the ring will twist while welding the rest of the cover (becuase of that thin area that was lazered to clear)..... and machineing would make it much too expensive so grinding is the only way to take care of it. took about an hour to try and fit.. then grind.. the try and fit. then grind.. and so on... but it's still 1000 times better than the paper thin factory one

Okay, I just talked to Rock Lizard, and he said that a new diff is suppose to be coming out by the name of Blue Torch Fab Kryptonite Cover. I also PM’d JHCRASH about designing one. But it doesn’t look like we have a lot of options. I think if you’re going to sell a rear diff it should come finished and not something that you have to grind down, fit, grind, fit, grind, and refit until it is finished. That’s my 2 cents. At this point, I am willing to wait for the ARB, Kryptonite, or JHCRASH to make one.

You might have misread it. Blue Torch already has one to my knowledge. Riddler is the one coming out soon.

Well, you really shouldn't need one up front depending on your skids...

Also, has anyone used these guys:

looks like you can get a drain plug too!

Riddler Mfg is designing one for our KJ's. Here's a picture of what it may look like.
