maybe with a bigger cam? I don't see why you'd have to modify the bolt hole unless the bigger cam is on a bigger bolt.

Have asked before but never got an answer, how far is your alignment out? :? Mine is as close as they can get it with just OME Heavy Dutys, now I know with Als arms I would be good but another 2/2.5 inches it would have to be way out even with the arms. I appauld your way of thinking/lifting but dont think it would hold up running 35/40000 a year the way I do!

Tom

Mine isn't too far out except for i think the camber i believe. steering is straight and the only thing is a little tow in at the top of the tire i think that is camber but im not sure. with the als arms it will be almost to specs, but right now its as good as it can get and you can't even notice its out to far. so my alignment isnt to bad

I think you're thinking of the caster being out of the adjustment limits. I have 3.5" of lift in the front and mine is right at the end of the adjustment range with the stock upper A arms. You probably wander quite a bit on the highway, especially with those Thornbirds. I mean, seriously, Thornbirds? Either you got them free, are paid to run them, or you really need to start doing some more research.

Yeah, sorry buddy, guess I'm just not cool enough to spend several hundred dollars on a product that others need and I currently don't, seeing as how I don't have any UBJ, spring contact, or alignment issues. Al's Arms are great products, but in the real world not every Libby is built the same and not every lifted and hard wheeling Libby needs them - for now I'll let somebody who really need them have my set. And yes, I don't like Thornbirds because they handle poorly on and off road, and are downright awful in mud and on wet roads. It does a great job of looking like an aggressive off-road tire, though.

Rusty's 2.5" coil lift with three conduit nuts in the front, Rusty's coils with two extra spring isolators and OME 132NL shocks in the rear. I put 245/70R16 Firestone Destination ATs on before the lift. A good tire, but gets a bit cut up on the trails and gets plugged with sticky mud. My trail tire is now 245/75R16 BFG (old style) MTs. Last time I checked over 10" under the stock engine skid and a bit less than 1/8" gap between springs and upper control arms.

So, basically...you're saying that it works for you for your current setup? Just like Wes's Thornbirds work for him with his current setup?

myjeepwalks........modify the cam bolt holes??????No way to do that a hole is a hole, also the cam fits into an area with the cam being off center on the bolt, so there is no way to off set the hole and do the alignment, if a shop does that with out a bunch of extra work I sure dont want them touching mine. have you ever looked a cam bolt? Having been a certified alignment and front suspension tech not sure how that would work :? :? :?
Tom

Ah missed this thread, little late but anyway.

Yeah modify the camber/caster bolt holes. Al told me he knew of a few kj's where that had to be done to get it in spec. The hole goes side to side if i remember correctly . If you grind/drill it out a bit and knock the actual cams off the bolts you will get more side to side adjustment. Instead of the cam hitting those metal guide plates on the subframe it will be the bolt head therefore allowing a tad bit more adjustment. It will allow you to kick the lower control arm in or out a bit more. It will be a pain in the booty and you will have to move the control arm with a prybar, then tighten the nut up when you get at the adjustment you want. I did not have to do this to mine, they got the camber in spec and the caster is border line in spec. They got the toe in fine. I wasn't worried about the caster because it doesn't cause any tire wear and it's offset enough where it doesn't cause any pull. If the shop had to do this they'd probably have no clue what you're talking about unless they are familiar with doing alignments on modified suspensions. If mine needed it i would of modified the holes myself. I wouldn't let anybody else do it because i dont want it @$#% up and i wont pay for somethign i can do myself.

To answer your question i've looked at a cam bolt, done a doo doo load of alignments and i'm still ASE master certified. I no longer work in a shop or i would of done the actual alignment my self.

Only if he plans on not venturing out when it's raining, or worse snowing, and never taking the tire off-road in muddy conditions. In Ohio I think the first two are bound to happen sooner or later, and with a very high COG this is a recipe for trouble. So, let me be clear, I think using this tire with that much lift on an already high COG vehicle in a region where you commonly experience rain, ice, and snow is a very bad idea.

I just got back from michigan (boyne city) and drove on moslty snow terrain it does fine on completly covered snow roads but if you hit a patch with one side it wanders bad also in the rain the tire wanders with the cracks filled with the tar.. it does great in about a foot and a half of snow or less. thornbirds look great and all and they do fine in the trails, okay in mud. fine in snow but i won't get them again. so everyone can just calm down about these tires. they are a 2 star tire out of 5 in my opinion but i do plan to get others next time a build another rig.. As for the thornbirds i just like the way they look on my swmpthg and maybe thats all i intended. but i do apreciate all of your dear concern about the tires but I just liked the aggressive look of them.. next are the bfg's :P

Dont worry about it swmpthg, ya know everyone has an opinion on what is best, and if they work for you then thats great the heck with the rest. Some only will eat one certain brand of food, only shop one store and date one woman  thats their choice, I agree the tires you have look wicked, thats what they do....not many run the tires I have but they work for me plus I wanted to try something different than BFGs , (they got plenty of my money back in the 70s) Keep coming back on the site, only a few are narrow minded
