Question about the battery to those who got a new battery.

1) Does Optima Red Top require additional bracket or tray to secure?
2) What is the next brand you would use? ACDelco, Die Hard? how about ENERGIZER?
3) Is the Mopar battery that bad, if I had to replace it with a new one?

You can't go wrong with a Blue top Optima battery. Have had it powering my sound system for about a year now and hasn't craped out on me yet although i have a custom alternator to keep it charged good. I'm switching to a Yellow top as soon as i get the money...

I run an Everstart max (wal-mart). Its a big battery with lots of ca and cca. Also not too exspensive, and you can't beat the return policy. If anything goes wrong with it within 2 years of purchase, take it back and no questions asked you get a new one.

And I load this thing up. Warn SDB-210 lights, headlights, fog lights, roof lights (4), 500w amp w/ JL audio sub, Warn M8000 winch.
Things do dim a bit when they're all a-goin' but I've only gotten stuck in the mud at night, lighting up a runway for a jet while listening to war pigs by Black Sabbath once.

It wouldn't suprise me if they have a bad rep., but I have yet to encounter any problems, maybe I'm just lucky.

Trust me if optima's had a return policy like that I would own one, or if i took the KJ way out in the boondocks or on safaris, but I don't, not right now anyway (I'd like to though).

If they have bad track record then, by all means, hyedipin avoid them. I don't want to steer anyone in the wrong direction.

Thanks, last year on any day with less than 20* outside, jeep wouldn't start, and I had to get it jumped twice $40!!
So, I bought a jump starter, and hauled it the other day home to charge it, because I was sure that it wouldn't start, and it started fine!
Next day same thing.. just as I was wondering about buying a new battery, it got its act straight. So I decided hold off at least for another few months, but prices of redtops are around $160-$180, never thought about bluetop. Other option is Energizer.

I have a 3 year old Optima Red Top in my Wrangler... after leaving the poor Jeep sitting unstarted for the past 60 days while I was away, it started right up nice and strong.
My next battery (for the KJ) will be an Optima Yellow Top.

The stock MOPAR battery has 525 CCA where as the red top has something like 720 (for the smaller group 25 unit) and 800 for the group 34 piece.

I am going red top as soon as I remeber to pick one up from the store.
