So, I'd like to get a little different opinion on this same issue. With a size of 245/75/R16, which (BFG or AT2) of these tires would you pick if you wanted something aggressive looking that had good all around AT characteristics (they probably both stink in mud) but also has somewhat refined on-road behavior (especially in inclement conditions).

I have the luxury of being able to afford either at the moment, so this is a question of "Which is better" rather than "which gets you the most for your money". We're expecting our first and the stock tires scare me sometimes, even moreso with a pregnant wife or small child, so I want to get the best replacement for how I'm going to use them, regardless of if it's a little costlier.

Thanks.
Dan

BFG All Terrains or Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos. Also check out the Goodyear Wrangler silent armer, dgeist.

the AT2's are worlds better than the stock tires, but that ain't saying much.

Take a look at the Wrangler Silent Armor 245/75R16 load range C. I think they may be just what you're looking for. They are severe snow service rated with the mountain/snowflake symbol. The tread depth is 16/32" so they look rather aggressive. You get a 6 ply tire that handles the weight of the KJ well, a quiet, smooth ride for an AT, and great traction and snow, ice, and rain.

Nokian Vatiiva AT's and never look back. my two worthless cents. ;)

I got 5 for $515. A stellar AT tire....aggressive, Revo-like treat pattern with better siping and rubber compound, among the best for snow, ice, wet weather. Looks great on the rig....just mean enough without any extra road noise over stock.

Tire Rack Prices:
General Grabber AT2 265/75R16: $119/tire ($476/set)
BFG AT/KO 265/75R16 $166/tire ($660/set)

Now, tirerack does charge about $20/tire for shipping, so the totals are more like $740 and $556

Now there are the numbers!!! BTW, while TireRack still charges for shipping, that does not take the fact away that the size you are looking for still a $119 dollar tire VERSUS a $166 dollar tire for the KOs. The Grabbers are not apples to apples with the BFGs in anyway other than look. My point being, for a stock size or the larger size you want, the price quote should easily be $50 less per tire for Grabbers no matter where you buy them...if they are neck and neck in price with KOs at the shop you are looking at? then that shop is ripping you off blind. Your OP said the difference in price is only about $80-85....it should easily be twice that if not more between the two...the fact he has Grabbers priced along side the KO's is proof enough for me to look at a different tire shop. 4 Grabbers in that size, mounted and balanced should be well under $550...your guy is quoting $624??? OUCH. For 5 tires maybe....but for 4, no way.
