Hissing sound from the front pass side

I am a new owner and i have expierenced a few times a hissind that dissapates on maybe 10 seconds. i am wonding if this is a intercooler hose that is busted. the sound is rushing air and it is after i drive then doo doo it down.

If the noise is after hard acceleration then its just the turbo spooling down ,If its all the time and you notice a drop in power then you probably have a leak in a hose .

just bought this about a month ago and it seems slower than my Ex's... but that is before it had any flashes

If it is a leak in the turbo hose loud enough to hear inside the cabin, it would be *really* slow. As in dangerous to drive in traffic slow, outrun by a VW beetle towing a horsetrailer slow. I'd expect a leak to be loudest under hard acceleration (like merging on to the interstate).

Is your defroster on? I know my condensor hisses for a time after shut-off with the a/c comp running.

yeah that is funny ... and i really need to read over my posts before i submit it... i sound like jack arse in that post.. misspelling everything, wrong words. it is horrible.

Tell us a bit more about how you notice it, how loud it is, which conditions the car is in (idle, accelerating, idling in D at a crossing).

I might have a clue, but right now I don't think I'm right because I need more info.

my browser has a built in speelcheck, underlines misspeeled words in red. Overall it has helped my speeling out quite a bit since whenever I type something online I immediately see what I speeled wrong. Might see if yours has a similar option.

O am using Firefox in Mandriva (Linux) and i have not configured the spelling yet so it is underlining everything.

Uffe- i am residing at the top of a hill right not. i noticed it when i shut the car down and walk infront of it.. i have noticed it a few times... i am going to pay closer attention now.

My previous car was a 300SD and it did not have the turbo spool down that was mentioned earlier.

I am not sure if it controls the EGR anymore. I think it's more likely the wastegate. Someone would be able to correct me.

Sounds like turbo spinning down or Flow Control Valve closing. I occasionally hear the same thing.

Just a FYI the AC compressor cycles in every position except VENT and OFF depending on temperature :lol:

So turn it to vent or off and listen for your sound :wink:

Ahh, there's your problem.. Ubuntu's default firefox config works great out of the box

On the noise: I'd say get a buddy to actuate the "go" pedal while it's in park and you have the hood open. Should be easy to find assuming it's reproduce-able.

onthehunt and Joe Romas were right on... i turned the Vent off completely and there was no sound. This is the first vehicle i have had that has a working AC system :oops:

You need to add the word, "misspelled" to your google's dictionary. couldn't resist sir sam!!
