OK I am taking the truck in for it's 10K change and I was wondering if you guys could help me figure out all this fluid and oil info. It is $59 bucks for Jeep to service it at 10 K as it is just a rotation and oil. He said I could bring my own oil if I wanted. I see that a lot of you guys use Amsoil and I as wondering what is the reson you use it over another synthetic.
Should I bother with geting my own oil or should I just let them do their stuff?

Thanks

I use amsoil and have my own reasons for doing so. I'm not about to push them on anyone or attempt to try and change anyone's mind on which product to use. However, you can do your own research on the various products over at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

There are many reviews of the various oils used, results of the individual tests run on the various oils, and lots of opinions on which to use. Check it out and decide for yourself.

I like it primarily because of the 25k change interval (or once a year, whichever comes first). See http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... php?t=8231

Amsoil seems to be a much higher grade of oil than any other syn oil. Its actually Synthetic too and the others claim to be but probably are not 100% syn.

If you are brave, you can stretch the intervals as far as 25k if you change the filter on a regular basis.

It would be stupid to use Amsoil and still change the oil at 3k intervals. Personally, Ill stick with Mobil One oil w/ a PureOne Purolator filter every 3k. It usually takes me 5-6monts to get that many miles so its not an issue at all. Plus its only $30 max for me to get one of the best oils and filters you can get.

Amsoil has always been at the forefront of synthetic oil developement...it has not been around this long because it is inferior if you know what I mean.

www.bobistheoilguy.com is a website where real people use oils and most send them in for a UOA ... or Oil Analysis ... Amsoil always fairs very well.

Personal experience in Racing, Testing (Vehicular Testing Services) and Dyno experience always leads me back to Amsoil. There are other very good oils out there...Name Brand and Boutique (specialty)

With a bit of extended drain interval, the cost is equal to Dinos for the most part. I just don't think you can go wrong with it.

First go to: http://www.amsoil.com/products.aspx for your basics

Then go to: http://www.amsoil.com/scripts/runisa.dl ... loaf:index

Now just read and all your questions should be answered. The rest is up to you to decide no hard sell, but you will get all your facts just read and learn.

So has anyone on here had their oil analyzed? Or do it on a regular basis? What do you have to do to have it analyzed? How much on average does it cost? Thanks.

If you use the full synthetic and the EAO series filter from them you do not have to change the filter for one year or 25,000 whichever comes first. No need to replace the filter before then.

Curious, What does all that cost you and why add Lucas to Mobil 1?

No doubt. Amsoil fanatics rank right up there with Tupperware and Amway dealers.

(P.S. I'll stay with my good old trusty conventional Havoline. I've never had a problem with it in 41 years of "motoring" and see no reason to change now. )
