Sir Sam,

I just picked up my 05 Lib yesterday and it doesn't have cruise or the radio controls. I see you have a post about adding things to yours but YES, I am looking to do this mod.

Well here's the dealio, I have 2 harness's, one from a liberty with cruise but without the radio buttons. I also have the harness from a grand cherokee with the radio buttons, as I said in the other thread you can combine them to make 1 whole harness for the liberty. You would essentially need to remove the two center wires from the grand cherokee harness, and insert those into the liberty harness.

then you would have a KJ harness for cruise and for the radio buttons.

Now on the CRD that is the only physical part of the car that lacks the cruise control option, all the other wiring exists. Now either it will go ahead and work at that point, or you will have to go into the dealer and have them activate the Cruise Control circuitry in your PCM.

At least one poster from a long time ago wasn't able to get the dealer to install cruise after the fact. It had been promised as part of the deal, and I think the guy got a different Lib out of the deal. I'd get all that straight before I went to the trouble to run the harness.

Ya, course he could always install em, then bring it into the dealer and ask them WTH he cruise isn't working!
(if he is still under warrantee)

Yes I do....but I've read somewhere ( probably here ) that it only works on '01-03 CRD's which were factory wired with the correct BCM.

So mine should be ok.

:D PM send

Oh don't fret about the cruise control. It uses vacuum lines to install into your existing setup. There is a nice little thread here on how to add it cheaply!

Lemme find it for you.

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=26778 <- contact that guy for more specific information.
http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29898 <- complete install guide

Go find a wrecker and get the stuff you need off them. Hope this helps you :)

All US CRD's are drive by wire. No vacuum involved.

Goglio has it correct, all throttle functions are controlled by the PCM via a Drive-by-wire setup. The only physical hardware thats lacking is the wiring in the steering wheel, and the cruise control buttons, everything else is controlled via the PCM.

05+ CRD have no throttle cable at all, the Throttle pickup is located at the pedal, in the cabin.

Sorry to hear that :(

I just thought I could be of assistance to some of the guys in need. I have seen similar reports around the web after doing some more research into it. 2004 was possibly the last model year where you could actually add CC to the KJ. At least a guy on jeepkj.com forums said he would install CC to his 2004. He hasn't posted in the thread to report if successful or not though.

adding it to any gasoline KJ will be pretty easy, you would need the actuator, some vacuum lines, the steering wheel harness, and the buttons.

But thats since the gasoline vehicles have a throttle cable and a TPS sensor, since the PCM is the only thing that controls our throttle it is not possible to add any of a variety of aftermarket solutions.

Um, all we know is that there are not aftermarket solutions out there for cruise.

I still dont see any reason that the stock wiring will not work, in all the other jeeps I have added cruise control to the PCM was already setup with the circuits activated, all you had to do was install the stock stuff and it worked.

That may not be true on the CRD, but I dont see any reason the dealer would not be able to activate that in the ECU, MrMopar essentially said as much in an earlyer post.(I'm gonna PM him and see what he has to say on the issue).

Well you could tap into the wire controlling the signal to the fuel input. If you are very brave this can be a mod project for you :D

Since I already got CC I will only attempt to give crazy ideas and leave the implementation, sweat, anger, frustration and fried PCM to others

Ya, I can think of few quicker ways to ruin a drive by wire system than trying to rig in a second potentiometer as some sort of throttle lock.

I think you are talking about me. I drove the first CRD over one weekend (400 miles :D ) and then when I brought it back for the cruise that they promised as part of the deal they ended up getting me another rig. I was very well taken care of and got lucky because they could have snaked out of it I would think. I had it in writing but I could have had a fight on my hands .....I have over 50,000 miles on this one now
