Being a proud owner of an 05 Liberty CRD now for about a year and a half, I have to say I like the vehicle when I do get to drive it as it has become my wifes vehicle of choice to drive.

Now for the question. On the instrument cluster, there is an indicator light for the 4wd full time. But when we shift it into 4FT the light does not illuminate. My wife took it to the dealer and had them look at it and they told her that it was normal for it not to light up. Some kind of BS that it is there but it is not intended to be used. I ran through the instrument cluster test and the light does light up during the test. SO, before I take it back and ask WTH is the light there for if it is not intended to be used, I wanted to make sure if other CRD owners have the same condition.

That's baloney, it should light up. You should check that the lever is even connected to the transfer case anymore. Some have had this problem.

Can you get the part time or low range lights to come on?

No, I work a little higher than that. I am a pilot, but it would be cool if I could get myself a position in the Mountain. You have any connection :)

Try a test of the instrument cluster. Press and hold the trip/reset button when you turn the ignition key to ON. See if the FULL TIME light comes on through a cycle. There will be plenty of things blinking and coming on and off, hope you know where the FULL TIME indicator is :D

Here it is!

It should absolutely light up. Being a Jeep dealer, I'm sure they know this. They are giving a deliberately incorrect answer, which is even worse than giving an incorrect answer because they are clueless. I would go in there and slap some folks around for lying to your wife.

Of course it should light up. The dealer you are using is either incompetent or just lazy. Go to another one.

I had a similar incident with the passenger side airbag light. It is not supposed to light when the passenger seat is empty. Mine did from new and the dealer I bought it from tried to convince me that this was the correct behaviour even though he was contradicting the manual.

I took it to another dealer who recalibrated it and it has operated correctly since. Needless to say I have not been back to the original dealer since.

So does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on. I like doing my own wrenching but since the vehicle is still under warranty it would not be a big deal taking it back. I have yet to get a tech manual for it so I am assuming that it is some sort of positioning switch somewhere that tells which indicator to light up that is not doing its job or a wire that has gotten disconnected somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Mine was on for >200 miles of of driving on patchy snow and ice a few weeks ago. Sounds like the dealer expects it to be faulty wiring and doesn't want to deal with the headache of tracking it down.

Kind of what what I was thinking. I am trying to get my ducks in a row before I walk into the Service Managers office and ask him why his mechanics are lying to my wife just so they dont have to deal with it.

Just watched "Solitudes" and now am watching "Frozen"

I also record the HD episodes from comcast via firewire, and have been stock piling them on my media PC.

I figured you for a stargate fan, though after my comment on Cheyenne Mountain and your reply I wasn't sure.
