ok so i went out to test my new tires and skid today. i went with my local 4x4 group and all was well. a ruby slid down a small, snowy hill when he was trying to back up a dead end on a trail. so we all finaly turned around and winched him out(no harm was done!!). then i got in my jeep, started it and realized i still had a beany i borrowed form another member. so i got out of my still running KJ to bring it to him before we started to roll out. there were some dense trees on the drivers side that made it tough to get out. i squeezed out though and had a few branches get cought in the door. i got the door shut brought him his hat when i got back to my jeep it was LOCKED!!!! it was still running and i was the 2nd rig to the front. there was no way to get in and we were out in the middle of nowhere in the snow. so we did the only thing we could BUST OUT THE WINDOW!!!!  .. yeah needless to say i couldnt watch. at first i wanted to do it but i just couldnt. this sucks so bad!!!! we busted the little window in the back seat window. im pretty depressed about it but stuff happens i guess. just figured i would share this with all u guys and maybe u can get a laugh out of it im sure i will when my window is fixed.

i usually carry an extra key with me just for that reason. i know its no good to start the kj but it gets me in the jeep. i've locked myself out in the middle of the woods before to, but the extra key got me back in.

That sucks. You need an extra key somewhere on that thing

if you had a cell phone and someone else had an extra key, you could have called them and they can hit the unlock button. the cell phone would carry the signal and would have unlocked the kj.

I have a similar story but w/ a happier ending...... funny too....snow was involved and that is a rarity here in Cali where we wheel.

It was May and we were wheeling in Big Bear and got hit w/ a freak cold storm that had hail, rain, sleet, snow, wind, etc. We got to the trailhead of John Bull (pretty tough trail) and it was going through all the different weather when I got out of my KJ and let the door close to the first latch not realizing that the dang auto locks had locked during the drive (all had been unlocked earlier during a slow section when I had gotten out) and when I went back to get in because of the rain and snow I found the doors all locked, keys in ignition, engine running........ ugh.
We were able to pry the door open enough and take the antenna off of Clints daughters Toyota and bend the end so we could try to hook the door lock switch and pop the locks. After many attempts over about a half hour standing in the weather and w/ me about ready to bust a window w/ a rock it finally caught just enough and popped the locks.....I still have the scratches in the door jamb from the antenna moving around trying to unlock it. What a day that was......holy crap was that trail a mess too!! Oh and BTW. IT is almost impossible to bend the end of a KJ antenna and we tried w/ no luck.

lol yeah i wish and yeah my girl has the other key but she couldnt make it there in her corolla and we were about an hr from home. its always should have had and im sure ill have a hidden key somewhere after this lol.. oh and the cell didnt have a signal anyways.

JJsKJ i also bent that antenna wheeling today(forgot to take it off ) to top this whole thing off the first time we rode this trail i said " this is a good trail to run and not worry about breaking anything" (we only did a fraction of it then) and last weekend the week after saying that i broke my side view mirrior off on that trail then go back this week and this happens so i wont be saying that about any trail ever again. it got its revenge. at least i hope cause ill be going back again soon

 NO WAY!!?? Man am I glad I didn't break my window but now I gotta try the cell phone thing.... of course I doubt I would have had a signal where I was but for future use....

I do now carry a spare key for that KJ in my wallet and Really do need to get one for my Wifes Kj too.

I used to always put my extra key in my wallet when I went hiking in the woods. But one time as I was getting out of my ride, at the last second I thought to myself "leave your wallet in the car so you don't lose it". Right as the door shut I realized what I had done. Sometimes even your backup plan fails. I had to break the window as well. No fun. Now I never leave the key in the Jeep without taking the button with me.

I'm going to have to try this too. I'll have the wife take the extra fob with her to work and then have her try it when she's on a break. It'd be cool if it does work!

I think Rob aka Callaway had a similar story ... I believe it happened at the badlands on the second day of the L.O.S.T midwest Halloween Run..... I can say that having a mom try to hold up the keyless remote to her cell phone and pushing it to try and send the signal over the phone does not work

I thought you couldn't lock the doors when the KJ was running or is that just an EVIC thing?
