I'd thought the smallest window would be the cheapest.
So how much is it going to cost you to replace the window?

You can lock them. Just not with the drivers side controls when the door is open and the key is in the ignition. When I warm my Jeep up in the mornings I will take the fob with me and lock the jeep while it's running with the fob. He must have accidentally pushed the locking mechanism down while squeezing out of the Jeep in the confined area.

I don't care what people say, I'm going to try that out, just to see if that is possible to do!

You can't run the signal through the mic-speaker setup but you could be lucky and transmit the electrical signal onto the cell-phone radio signal and have it come back out where you stand.

Sounds near as impossible as cell-phone signals today are transmitted digitally, hence losing all the supposedly carried signal in the cell-phone radio signal.

you can call bull on whatever you want.
the fact remains that if someone is standing next to your kj on a cell phone, and another person is somewhere else with a keyfob to your kj, on a cell phone as well, they can hit the lock / unlock button and it will unlock or lock the kj.

sorry.

I tried it while I was at home, it worked! But then I tried it with out the phones, It worked! Darn I was too close. So then I tried it while I was at the store a couple of miles away. It didn't work. I tried it with the KJ and the Jag. I talked to my Mom, and she tried it on her two Subarus, didn't work. One of my friends tried it on his Ford truck, didn't work. I would say this myth is busted......................

I wish the KJ had a keyless entry like the Fords. I welded a bracket to the spare tire carrier and bolted a key lock box to it, and put my spare key in it.

What happens when you lose the key to the lock box? Or is it one of those manual push button keycode boxes?

Same exact thing happened to us with the midwest group at Livingston. I want to say it was Science_Guy but I cant remember for sure.

We ended up prying the top of the drivers door open and popping the lock, no use in breaking out a window. Hopefully he will never have problems with that door leaking.

We never did really figure out why the door locked. You cannot lock them with the switch while its running and a door is open. Either the Jeep was mad that day or he only had the drivers door unlocked and accidentally hit it when he got out. Ive locked my keys in my Jeep one to many times so I now carry a key in my wallet.

I lent my kj to my brother the other day so he could go to the ski hill. He turned it on, to let it warm up while he packed his gear from the house. When he got back to the jeep, everything was locked up. I have no idea why it happened, but seems to lock when idling after some time. Lucky he was still at home and we have 2 extra keys.

what i do is put my spare key on the tether for the gascap. this way its hidden, i have access to it since the cover dosent lock, and if someone does find it, it cant start the jeep and i dont usually keep anything in my jeep anyway besides an ipod and my combat boots.

I keep two keys on one of those quick disconnect key chains. One end has my remote key, house key etc the other is just a key, no remote

I always use the plain key to start and run, if I get out of the jeep while its running, I just pop of the remote and stick it in my pocket. Lets me leave my CRD running at the pump when I fill up, and when off road, the key without the rest of the baggage is a lot less annoying than the full keychain. Also nice to have the remote in my pocket to pop the back window if I need to.

Before I started doing this, I went to the local locksmith and had a non transponder key cut. I hid the key on the frame in one of those magnet key boxes. It could be used to open the door, but couldn't be used to drive it away. I lost it somewhere, but wasn't a big loss, I think it cost $5.00 including having it cut.

I locked my keys in the Wrangler last winter. Wait, before you say "Just unzip a window and crawl in", I had the hard top on. I had been wheeling that day at Paragon (was the official last run there) and the Jeep was covered in mud. Couldn't see out any of the windows really. So I ran into a local store to get some window cleaner and paper towels. Came out and turned the Jeep on to get the heater warmed up (the temperature was in the teens plus a wind chill). Started cleaning the windows then realized I had locked myself out. Luckily I had read a post on another board about a week earlier about someone locking themself out. So I opened the hood and found the fuel pump relay in the fuse box and pulled it. The Jeep died instantly. So I went back in the store and called road side assistance. They sent out a tow truck with a pop a lock kit. This guy must have spent a half an hour trying to get the door open but to no avail. I was standing out there with him the whole time. So I go back in the store and call roadside assistance again and tell them the first guy can't get in so they send another one out. When he finally gets there anther half hour later and I'm chilled to the bone. I'm back out there trying to help the guy in the freezing cold. He finally gets in after about twenty minutes. By now I am completely resolved to NEVER let this happen again since I can barely feel my fingers. I have the Sentry key system so I went to the hardware store when I got home and had them cut a non transponder key for me. Without divulging the location, I can say that now there is always a key on the Jeep in an easily accessible yet inconspicuous place. Of course in the summer if I lock my keys in, I will just unzip a window and crawl in.
