Ok .... so what type of wrench do you guy's use to remove the filter on these things?

My standard metal band type with 5" handle just dosen't cut it.

What tool do I need to get this thing off.

Pictures are worth a thousand words (for the mechanicaly uninclined)

I used this to finally remove the factory installed filter. 1" band works like a boa constrictor. I only hand tighten new filters now and remove by hand.

WoW Mike .... I've never seen an oil filter wrench like that before. So where did you find it?

How do I get my hands on one?

Anyone have another tool that works?

Ken

Got it from the local Pep Boys Auto store.

If you use K&N oil filters they have a knob on the end that a 1" socket fits over. Makes it really easy to loosen them.

I use this one:

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product. ... 2820523000

Was kinda hard to maneuver under the KJ though. They really made it hard to get to with the frame we have. I spent at least 30 minutes busting knuckles and fighting with the factory Mopar filter becuase of the location and tightness of it. This tool worked great with my Pontiac.

In any case, after you get the factory one off, just make sure you lube the gasket on the new one with a bit of clean oil, and all you'll need here on out is your hand.

Haven't done one on the lib yet, cause i'm not out of freebie coupons from the dealer yet. But on any other vehicle i've done one on, i've used this. Attaches right to your standard socket and makes it MUCH easier to get those stubborn filters off. They come in various sizes and can be found anywhere....I believe I got mine at wally world. To figure out which is yours, find one of the fram filters they sell for the KJ and take it and match it up to one of the filters to find the right one.

Thanks guys

I couldn't break the factory filter loose last night so stoped in at my local quicky lube tonight. I let them have the fun. He got it off but it took a few attempts.

Okay, so I should be able to do the rest myself. Except when it's the dead of winter and that's when I'll use my dealer freebies.
